FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I hold a standard lesson rate of $20/half hour, $40/full hour. I feel my rates reflect my experience, professionalism, and track record of success in music education.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been teaching guitar to students of varying ages, musical interests, and skill levels for over a decade. My teaching experience has ranged from a privately run studio and community schools to college classes and undergraduate music lessons. I hold two graduate degrees in music that focused on guitar pedagogy as much as they did musicality and analysis. My experience combined, I've come across a wide variety of student personality types and goals. This points towards my favorite aspect of teaching music: Working with students to aid them in attaining their musical goals, be it fingerstyle guitar, rock songs, or simply learning the basics of an instrument.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've always taught guitar one way or another, from showing friends basic guitar chords to teaching out of back rooms in music shops. As I started to seriously pursue music as an academic option I grew more curious as to the most efficient ways to discuss and teach the instrument. Teaching extensively throughout the past few years has refined my approach, and now I'm more apt to shape lessons towards a given student's strength while working on their weaknesses.
