Introduction: When working with students I try to restrict my dialogue to leading questions as mush as possible. Most tutors have a tendency to be "too helpful" and deprive students of their chance to construct knowledge through their own reasoning. Education is the greatest contribution I have for humanity. I could make more money in other professions, but I find gratification in facilitating and empowering others to accomplish their dreams.

.... My name is Saud Aldandan and I was one of Johns students for at least 6 engineering and math classes. There are a lot of reasons I think you should hire John. The most important one is that he makes you think as best you can before he gives any advice on solving the problem. Also, during the session he gives you some useful review from the previous sessions to make sure you understand 100% before he moves on to a new topic. Another thing I really like about John is when he sees a weakness in you, for example Algebra tricks, he gives you some simple practice problems to target that weakness. John is always on time, he was a very easy man to talk to, and he is a very kind person. I think everybody should hire John because he will make sure that you get a 100% percent understanding of the subject you ask him to teach you.

Absolute Game Changer! Highly Skilled, Impactful Teacher John began tutoring my daughter in math at the age of 12. Fast forward one year, I still can't believe that I was so lucky to have found the best, most substantive tutor who truly changed the trajectory of my daughter's academic path. After great success, we continued beyond math tutoring with SSAT prep. John’s talent for SSAT/SAT prep in all categories, particularly essay writing/structure, word problems, etc. was equally impressive. The guy is just amazing. Looking for a tutor can be a daunting task, particularly the first time around. After you do the research and due diligence, in the end, you still just take a leap of faith and hope you made the best choice for your child. What sold me on John was his education, his extensive tutoring experience, and the fact that his bio stressed his commitment to figuring out how your child learns and identifying the gaps in their understanding. This was the first issue John tackled and it didn't take him long to identify all the gaps in my daughter's understanding, bridge the gaps, bring her current with the classwork, and successful going forward. John's effectiveness comes from the fact that he possesses the instructional understanding & experience to give students all the necessary building blocks and a solid foundation. More importantly, he provides a visual understanding and strategic approach for how to tackle problems on their own. This is key. Everything John does is to prepare students to fly solo! Students learn how to recall building blocks when confronted with unfamiliar problems – great for confidence building. When John met my daughter she had a C-/D in math and things were quickly getting worse. She was strong in other subjects but lost in math. She convinced herself she wasn't good at math, didn't understand it, and that's just the way it was going to be. Then came John. Results count! My daughter earned an A in math for the year and her confidence has soared. She now thinks of herself as someone who can ace a math test, and she now understands what is taught in the classroom and is a better student overall. I asked my daughter to explain what specifically John does for her and why is he a good tutor. She made the following comments about her experience with John: • I can understand everything he explains and shows me how to do better than I can with my teacher. • He creates a visual picture for me that helps me understand problems and see the logic. (This is key!) • He teaches me about strategy and when to use it. • He constantly goes back and reviews and his reviews are really good. • He teaches me how to approach problems I don't think I understand at first but then I realize I do know what to do. • He is better than all my teachers. On a more personal note, I think John also made her feel good about herself. He has a quiet, understated demeanor and makes kids feel comfortable. He relates easily to kids and has an intuitive sense of what they need and how they learn. My daughter actually looks forward to every session. She wants to do well for herself and for John. I worked with John to brush up on my algebra skills that are going to be used for medical dosage calculations. My experience with John was OUTSTANDING!! He was patient, understanding, extremely knowledgeable. He was able to identify my weaknesses and focus on the areas I needed help. John was a true professional. I DEFINITELY recommend him highly. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
At the beginning of each session I ask "What are we working on?" and the students informs me what he/she would like the focus of the session to be. Rather than come into sessions with a rigid agenda, I try to tailor each session to the needs of the student
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I completed a master's degree in math education so I could provide the best possible service to my clients.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started helping my classmates in engineering school with their homework in exchange for guest meals in the dorm cafeteria. Then, after 2008, I took my business to the next level and started charging real money.
