FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I do not charge for the initial phone call in which I discuss the general project with the client. I then offer a discounted rate for my initial consultation in the space (usually accomplished in one hour). When charging by the hour, I always round in favor of my clients.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with a variety of clients that have a broad range of needs - from renters who want a simple decor refresh, to larger commercial jobs that include designing entire retail and office spaces. I work continually with homeowners that need something as simple as a paint color consult to more complex whole house designs. I often help in the building/renovation processes with surface selection (flooring, backsplash, cabinetry, fixtures, etc.). There is no budget too small for Blue Door Decor; the home is often the most important space in which we exist! I wholeheartedly believe that home is not a place, it's a feeling.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When hiring an interior designer, one of the most important things to determine is how well they listen to your needs and wants. A good designer will merge function and beauty in any design. Also, be sure that your designer will work efficiently for you. You don't want to hire someone by the hour who will run up a timesheet without you knowing where your dollars are being spent! Lastly, ask questions about their portfolio. A good designer has a variety of projects under their belt - some you'll love, and some that may not be your taste. Some clients don't necessarily want to spend a ton on new furniture, but rather refresh their design and make a plan for the future. That being said, those portfolio images may not reflect the latest design trends. They may instead reflect what looks like a tremendous improvement over the previous design, while the homeowner saves up for that new sofa their designer suggests! Simply put, not all spaces are magazine worthy! The best way to know if your designer will work for you is to talk to them - ideally in person. Then, you can determine how you can work together towards a beautiful space!
