Introduction: At BreakTheBar we take an evidence based approach to fitness. There are no secrets, there are no tricks, theres just science, and using the evidence in a practical manner for each client. Nutrition is paramount, BreakTheBar doesn't focus on meal plans, we focus on macronutrient intake (Proteins, Carbs, Fats, Fiber). The facts are meal plans are not sustainable, and YOU as the client will learn nothing from a trainer/online coach that tells you eat only the foods he/she tells you to eat. We teach you how to track Macronutrients so that you can have the freedom to eat the food that you want, making sure it fits your individual Macronutrient Ratios. In terms of exercise, for online and in-person clients, we make sure to set up a workout routine that you will be able to progress with over time, but is still enjoyable. It's true that some workouts are more OPTIMAL than others, but if you don't enjoy it, you won't stick to it. We make sure that the regimen given to each and every client will be beneficial to their long term progress, but also allow them to ENJOY going into the gym. This lifestyle has been my way of life for 16 years. 16 years of ups and downs, experience, research, and application. I love the fact that I'm able to take the way I live and plant it into the life of others, allowing them to enrich their way of life, and with consistent effort and learning, be able to one day progress or maintain the work we have done together on their own.

Nsima is seriously a legit GREAT trainer. Don't let his stern appearance fool you, he is a friendly giant lol. I assure you he is 100% NATURAL. He works really hard for what he wants and it shows. He knows what he is doing and knows what is he talking about, very KNOWLEDGEABLE for sure! He is all about FORM, FORM, FORM and of course nutrition! I 100% completely recommend him whether you are trying to lose weight, gain weight, tone, or compete in shows. He is very supportive and understanding. He is also very flexible. If something comes up and you can't make a session, he is very lenient as long as you give him at least a 24hr notice. He provides a breakdown of macros (i like his program because you can pretty much eat whatever you want as long as it fits your macros numbers), what it means in regards to your body and how each workout benefits each muscle group. He provides workout regiments catered to his gym and as well as other commercial gyms if you can't make it to the gym that he trains at. Another thing about Nsima is that he is not like most personal trainers-he talks to you with respect and patience and does not think he is above you. He actually cares about your gains and losses and will also go over what it is that is preventing you from both. He pushes you to do better in each workout and if you can't, no problem! He will adjust the workout to what you can do so there is no pressure of "failing" with him. He rather you do it safely in correct form at a lighter weight and less reps/sets than do heavy weights at an incorrect form. He gives great advice and tips generously and is easily accessible via phone, email, and/or in person. He is also budget friendly. His rates for in person training and online training is WAY cheaper than most trainers who charge around $100+ for a 1 HOUR session only. I was training with him for about 3-4 months and saw a noticeable change in my problematic areas such as abs and triceps. If it weren't for such a busy schedule this year I would still be with him. I cannot wait until I can train with him again! =)

I trained with Nsima for about 6 months and glad I invested in it. My schedule is hectic and he did his best to cater to it. His knowledge and expertise built my confidence because I never entered the weight lifting part of the gym. Now, I'll go because I'm confident in how to execute the workouts. While exercise is important in any fitness goal, diet actually weighs more. I was allowed to eat what I wanted (in moderation) as long as I stayed within my "numbers", aka macros, aka macronutrients. Nsima did an assessment in the beginning that is based off of age, weight and goals. Any food or drink you consume contains protein, carbs, fat and fiber. As long as you met the numbers and incorporated exercise regularly, you're golden! I wasn't the best at consistently reaching my numbers so my progress took a little longer than I wanted. Nsima holds you accountable by reporting and tracking on a Google Sheets document on a daily basis. I also wasn't good at this so again, my progress took a little longer than I wanted. All in all, I loved my personal training sessions because I'm the type of person that is not motivated to workout unless it's an appointment. The price point is good but is definitely an investment. Knowing how to do the workouts efficiently and effectively is very important to prevent injury. I definitely recommend personal training if you're not motivated to workout on your own but want that rockin' bod or to looking to take your current fitness goals to the next level.

Nsima is an incredible coach and mentor . I have been involved in the fitness world for some time and have trained with multiple trainers in the past . Nsima is the only one that addressed every aspect relating to my goals including nutrition, mobility, strength, sleep and energy. Due to this, my results were rather immediate but most importantly it was sustainable; I wasn't on a program where I was going to fail miserably the second I was at a family dinner. At this point, I can't imagine working with anyone else.

Nsima is incredibly professional in conducting himself and listens intently on the needs of all of his clients. His programs are comprehensive, yet concise, and his explanations are thorough. One of the most genuine aspects about Nsima's training that I appreciate the most is answers to why things are done in what way; for instance - short and quick explanations on why you engage specific muscles in a movement is incredibly helpful in ingraining good habits in form and pushing yourself to get to another level in strength. Overall, I have been incredibly satisfied working with Nsima and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone, at any skill level.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask the coach about how they will deal with your nutrition. There's a problem with a large part of the industry these days. People want meal plans and want to be told what to eat, but the question is how long can you eat the same things every day? There will come a point where you will binge, eat a huge amount of food that you've been limiting yourself from, feel guilty, and quit. My advice to you, if you work with any coach that teaches clients flexible dieting(Macros, IIFYM), is that you should be ready to learn. The ability to be able to hit macronutrient numbers with whatever you want to eat during the day is a skill that takes patience and consistency to build. I as a coach don't expect you to be perfect after your first, second, or even third month, but in time when you have fully learned how to track your intake of food, you won't feel guilty for eating ice cream. You can make the foods you enjoy fit your macronutrient intake without the guilt of thinking you're back tracking, or the urge to go and binge. Again, its a learning process, and something that will benefit you for the rest of your life, so be patient with yourself as you're learning how to do it.
