- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Get to know them and why they would like to take lessons. Ask what their musical experience is. If there's a song they played or sang last. What was it and could they show me. (It's so I have an idea of their ability level and what they've learned. This is so I know where to start with them.) Ask them how they found me, see if there's a connection with another student I teach. I always like to know. Fill out contact info. Start learning a song or two out of their piano books or voice books, teach and assign what to start practicing the next week, what to bring to the next lesson, about incentives for practicing, when their lessons will be and about recitals. (If they don't have them yet I'll advise them on where to purchase the books.) Ask the student if he or she has any questions. Let them know that they can call, text or email me between lessons if they ever have a question. I'd be more than willing to answer any questions they have and help them.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a certified public school teacher. ( Ask to see my educator license. I have also had a background check to teach in the public schools, just not paid for another through Thumbtack.) I received my Bachelor's Of Music - Choral Education degree and a minor in Spanish Teaching at the University of Utah. I have taught music for the past 10 years to students ranging from preschool age - adult. This includes teaching private lessons and entire music classes (up to 50 students in a class). I have sung in prestigious choirs with amazing musicians. The University Singers and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, both of which are internationally acclaimed and some of the best experiences of my life!
