FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge 20 dollars per hour if the subject is one for which I need to do some preparation to tutor or if the student simply prefers to have sessions which have a more rigid structure. If the student doesn't require, or want, especially structured sessions I only charge 16 dollars per hour. That being said, I am willing to drive pretty far but I will charge 57.5 cents per mile, the IRS standard, for anything over 5 miles. But please keep in mind, we can meet somewhere in the middle or somewhere to which I, or the student, can ride a bus. I will not charge for miles traveled by bus.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step is to ask what type of material the student is covering, in order to identify the key concepts and essential skills. Then I figure out which concepts, or which skills, are preventing the student from a complete understanding. Throughout every session I guide the student through the process of developing their ability to think mathematically, which means the student will come to a point when they no longer require my services. This will be a sad day because I have had a good report with all but one of my students (we didn't get along great but she still requested me over other tutors). But it will also be good for both student and tutor because we will both feel more satisfied than when we started.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am exactly 3 credit hours away from a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, which I will be completing next semester. I was certified by CRLA, an international organization, as a tutor. And I have over 2 years of experience tutoring mathematics and science in a very busy tutoring center, ran by a local community college. This included all the mathematics classes offered there, up to differential equations, and many natural sciences. I also have a lot of private tutoring experience.
