Introduction: Piano has been a part of my life for 20 years now and at this point the instrument feels like an extension of myself. I want to share that with others. I have also been composing original music for the piano for 8 years which challenges me to look at piano and how to play it differently, giving me a more thorough understanding of the instrument and what we can do with it. I believe that everyone can benefit from music education but also knows how frustrating and monotonous lessons can be when you're only learning from pre-made lesson books. So in addition to using traditional lesson books I also create lessons based on what you tell me you want to learn. The styles and songs you are passionate about learning are added in to your lessons alongside your technique, theory, exercises and practice pieces. My goal is to make piano lessons and piano practice fun! We begin lessons by assessing the student's goals and desires for music, looking at how they learn best, what their musical background is, and how much time they are able to commit to music. At that point we begin by using the Alfred piano lesson books (what level and series will depend on age and any prior music experience) and I begin tailoring the lessons to the student's goals immediately by drawing on songs and styles they want to play. As we progress I frequently check in with the student on how they are feeling about lessons and practicing and the goals we set at the beginning. Goals and desires shift as we learn and grow and I like to honor that.
