I hired Josh Yohn to assemble 3 large pieces and 1 small piece of furniture I had purchased through Wayfair Furniture Company and he did a great job of putting it together. In my opinion, it was very complicated but he made it look simple. He did such a fine job in a timely manner, I hired him to tear out the vanity in my master bath and to install a new one. Not only did he install the new vanity, but where it was required, he replaced all the tile, put in new plumbing, new electrical, hung cabinets, did all the trim work, and painted. He did an absolutely wonderful job paying attention to the smallest of details. He is a man of very fine character and I had even paid him before the job was finished because I knew he would be back the next day! I highly recommend Josh to anyone and to everyone.

Hired for a tile job in a bathroom floor. Did a very professional job and took time to make sure it was done right. Even made sure I was happy every step of the way and offered to fix anything if I needed but was not even a need since it all turned out beautiful!

I recently hired Greguol Coatings and Remodeling, Gabriel Greguol, as a general contractor for a house I recently purchased in Hoover to finish the unfinished room above the garage to convert it into a 4th bedroom. I am pleased to say that Mr. Greguol exceeded my expectations, and I am very pleased with his work. His work included sheet rock and carpet installation, insulation, painting, electrical work (including light fixture install), flat screen TV mounting, and roof repair. It was nice and convenient for me to be able to hire one person to handle everything. Although he does not do heating and air, he provided me with insight that I was able to use when I hired an heating and air company. Mr. Greguol was a true professional. He was efficient, detail-oriented, reliable, on-time, knowledgeable of all aspects of construction/remodeling, and very personable. I never had to call Mr. Greguol to say, “where are you, why are you not working on the house?” He showed up each day and on time, and stayed on the job without interruption. Above all, Mr. Greguol was trustworthy. This was my first time hiring a general contractor and in all honesty I was nervous due to horror stories that I have heard from others regarding conducting business with general contractors (i.e. making short cuts, being dishonest, taking the money but not completing the work, poor workmanship). My experience with Mr. Greguol was indeed the opposite. He was transparent, honest, honored his word, and anticipated and informed me of construction issues ahead of time and readily offered timely solutions. He completed all of the agreed upon work in our signed contract, he was easy to work with (I never had to argue with him about anything), and he made sure that I was satisfied with his work. And the gentlemen and crew that worked with/for him were professional and worked diligently. Last, Mr. Greguol provides a guarantee on his workmanship. I have not had to call him back to fix something related to his work, but I am 100% confident that if I do that he will come to make the necessary fixes. I am providing Mr. Greguol with my strongest recommendation. If other house/construction related needs arise for my future needs, undoubtedly I plan to consult with and re-hire Mr. Greguol. Working with him was safe and stress-free. I recommend Mr. Greguol for your construction/general contracting needs and I am confident you will have a similar experience.

Burnside Home Improvement provided excellent work quality with repairing the floor in my mobile home. I had a small leak around the back door that caused the wood to rotten. BHI repaired the frame around my back door to stop the leak and repaired the rotten wood on the floor and installed tile on the floor in the hallway. I was very satisfied with the work quality, professionalism and value for the service I received. I have an appointment to have my central-heating and cooling unit repaired.

Chad with CGB Contractors was very professional and his quality for work was unbelievably perfect! He did a much better job than that of the Big Box home improvement stores. My wife and I where so impressed with his work and the value he provided that we have proceed to hire him to install tile in our shower, on the walls of our bathroom and install a pocket door. You can not go wrong with Chad and his crew at CGB Contractors.

We had a master bath remodel which included removing a shower stall, whirlpool tub and moving the toilet to a new location. He installed new tile in the entire bathroom and master closets, a tiled shower with bench, new exhaust with light, linen closet, utility closet and a water closet. The Guys With Tools arrived as they said they would and got the job done in a timely manner. He was pleasant and easy to work with. After this job was completed, we had him come and lay more tile in another bathroom. I would recommend them (and have to all I've talked to) for any job you are considering. We will be using them again when the need arises.

Mike and DB did a fantastic job on installing our master bath shower and floor tile. They show up on time, work hard, and are easy to work with. They protect work areas and walk paths inside the house while working and then clean up and take any debris with them when they finish. They don't take short cuts, either. I had an issue from a previous floor tile job done by someone else and Mike and DB made sure to correct the old issues and got the floor just perfect. A couple of real professionals and all around great guys. You can't go wrong with them. Thanks again, Mike and DB, and God bless you both. You guys are awesome!

Carlos painted every inch of my main floor. It was exceptional! The house was built 9 years ago and when he ginished, it looked like a new build! When I saw what he can do, I decided to have him install new marble countertops and a tile backsplash. The results were amazing and my friends can't beleive the great price I paid for a brand new kitchen! Any projects at our home will include Carlos Maldonado! Thank you, Carlos!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
