I give my highest recommend to Home Remodeling and Roofing Leak Repair. I recommend them without question. Mr Baltazar arrived on time to inspect our needs and give us his estimate. He was punctual, professional, and through. His estimate was more than reasonable and worked with us to schedule a time for the job that was mutually convenient. He and his team arrived at 7am on the two day job and skillfully completed all the work we had discussed along with a few smaller changes that cropped up as their work progressed. He and his crew were quite careful to clean the work site after they completed the job; outstanding in every respect. Again, I recommend Mr Baltazar and Home Remodeling with any hesitation and reservation.

The gentlemen who came to remove junk from my garage and do some home repairs were fantastic. They were very nice and helpful. Also, they were able to fix my bed that was missing a part. They were able to fabricate the missing piece, by using a simple piece of wood. It was fascinating to watch. If you want A+ service, I suggest you call KC services.

My house was in no shape to sell. There were outside issues with the lawn and look of the home. Glass and trash were in the bushes and the lawn had not been touched in over 6 months. Throughout the home there were too many issues to name here. A few of the major things were water leaks, missing/damaged ceiling tiles in the basement, the electric garage door was damaged and missing glass, just about every room needed to be repainted, stains in the ceiling needed to be taken care of, and a toilet in the master bathroom needed to be replaced. All other contractors were quoting around $5,000 and Gregg from Sunbuilding quoted around $3,500 without seeing any of the competing quotes. The work was impeccable and the service was second to none. I live states away from the house and before I could even think to check on the status of the work he was sending me pictures and updates. This helped greatly with my peace of mind that the house was in the proper hands. I would not hesitate to recommend Gregg and Sunbuilding to anyone in need of any work performed on their home...except carpets...I don't think they replace carpets.

The men that came to work on our house were very professional. They were very careful not to damage anything around the project we were having done. They made sure they didn't track mud all through our house, Even though we had a huge mess due to doing a large remodeling job while living in the house. The workmanship is great. They were always on time. They tried to finish it as quickly as possible for us due to our living situation. The prices are more than reasonable. I will definitely use A 2 Z again.

Project #1 My anticipated project was to completely transform a wall space, In my garage, for a storage closet that could be Inclosed with doors. Mr. Lewis meticulously sketched a plan on paper with all dimensions necessary to fit the space given, calculating cost of materials, labor, and a projected length of time to complete the job., while devoting much attention to structural detail, making sure that the finished product complemented the already existing structural design of the garage itself. Good communication was key throughout the project, and I was pleased that Mr. Lewis would update me on a daily basis as the project progressed. I was greatly pleased with his well thought out plan, attention to detail, and his level of professionalism. Project #2 Maximizing more space in an existing master bedroom closet was project #2. Mr. Lewis drew a design to completely transform a large closet space with wire shelving into a closet with customized wood shelving with expanded hanging space as well. Track lighting was installed to replace single light fixtures to allow for better lighting throughout. In order to complete this project, Mr. Lewis did all of the electrical, sheetrock, carpentry, and painting himself. I am completely satisfied with the workmanship and completed project.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
