Faith is a terrific tutor. Her calm nature makes my son comfortable. She knows what she's doing and it's obvious she is the best of the best. She is also willing to go above and beyond. Once, I contacted her at the last minute because my son had an algebra exam the next day and he was really worried about it. Faith's daughter was sick so she couldn't meet us, yet she offered to go online and help my son. He aced the exam the following day! Don't hesitate -- she's the tutor for you.

I would not have made it through middle school or high school w/o Frog. He listens and really takes the time to make sure you understand! He knows many different methods of learning so he will work with you! I am now in medical school and don’t think I would’ve made it this far w/o the help of Frog. He has really helped me accomplish so much. My younger sister is now being tutored once a week by him. Thank you Algebrations Tutoring Service!

    About

I approach math from a more visual perspective as opposed to some math teachers/tutors who will just do algebra for students and expect them to replicate it. I show them the concepts and help them to understand and work through problems with them (if they can't do them on their own after my explanation). I enjoy the challenge of healing someone else develop an understanding of math concepts and strategies.

I used to do hair and I recently got my GED. Now I been teaching inmates for the last month with their GED basic requirements, but it don't pay well and a sista got bills to pay and mouths to feed! :) I'm working on my online degree right now in special ed and tbh I don't have a lot of experience with the SAT or ACT, but I heard tutoring is a good side hustle. If a person can teach some of the people I worked with, they can teach anybody.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons.
