I had to have a complete AC central system replaced. I got a good quote and timetable from them. They came out, took the old system out, installed the new system, and some of the nicest and honest people I've dealt with in my many years. I am retired now and on a fixed budget but they made things work and I'm having them come out again for duct work cleaning and sanitation of the interior of that duct work. They will be my annual team to work on mine and friend's of mine who need good and cost meeting needs. I am very pleased and I've had many an AC company come out in different houses over the years. These are good people.

My hot water heater went out last night about 6:00pm. I got up this morning looking for a plumber that could install a new hot water heater and haul away the old one. I found Sam's Plumbing thru Thumbtack.com. I placed a call to Sam at 9:00am, he was at my house by 10:00am installed new water heater and was gone by 11:00am. I would definitely recommend Sam's Plumbing to anyone with plumbing issues. Sam's Plumbing was very professional and knowledgableable. 11/01/2017

Goade's construction did a wonderful job installing my new vinyl plank floors. They removed a lot of old flooring and tile and the job site was always clean and they worked until the job was complete. Mr. Goade was a pleasure to work with and even floored a closet for us as a surprise. I would definitely recommend them and plan to use them again on other projects.

DJeremiah redbone help me with restoring my home due to fire damage. he restoreth my kitchen cabinetsplus my three walls and ceilings.what impressed me was that he did all repairs and only 5 days. it was a considerable amount of work that included the installation of crown molding residance for all rooms and installation of my dishwasher along with all the trimmins. that's what I call going above and beyond the call of duty. and what's more he was never late according to his appointed time of arrival.I have ranked him as a 10 on my personal scale of 1 to 10. he was excellent in his work performance, and he only use quality employees. but the most impressive of all is that he has a good attitude and personality. I will definitely ask for his help in any future project that requires a professional contractor. thank you very much you are the man.

Our experience with Tyson and Son Remodeling could not have been better! We have hired two other people from this site however, after working with Tyson they will definitely be my go- to with any future projects. They are very respectful, creative, go-getters. They make sure the job is done to your liking and with great quality. They installed a new screened in porch and also installed kitchen flooring for us. We were so happy with the results! We really hadn't planned to finish our basement when Kyle came to our home to install a cabinet in our laundry room. But, we talked about the possibilities and Kyle offered to put together an estimate to give us an idea of what we could do. Well, needless to say, we had Kyle finish our basement and couldn't be happier. Not only was he sincerely concerned about staying within our budget, but he offered creative ideas to make the room very functional. Kyle's workers were polite and considerate and everyone was a pleasure to work with. And, to top off the whole project, Kyle helped us place furniture and brought us a little Christmas tree because ours was burried in a storage area!! We definitely recommend Kyle for any type of work to be done in your home. Thank you, Kyle!

Constellation Remodeling is currently working on a 3rd project for me. They built a patio for me with pavers. The attention to detail was wonderful. I am pleased with my patio and enjoying it. The 2nd project they did for me was reconstructing my art studio/she shed after it had received major damage from water. They replaced the sub floor, put in new flooring and side paneling and completed fixed the windows and area around the Air Conditioner. Again, their attention to detail was great. Currently they are doing some repair damage and repainting of our tool shed. I can highly recommend them for interior and exterior work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
