Carol is so intuitive and careful. She understands the requirements of the parent and the child..I mean pet! She took our dog from overstimulated and aggressive to focused, calm and very walkable! I would recommend her to anyone who needs training- the pet or the human!

Ashley recommended Brandy for our job of sitting with our dogs in our home. Our dogs loved Brandy and how she connected with them on the first visit. Brandy even played ball with them at midnight. Our dogs love her and so did we. I would definitely recommend Rockin' Paws.

I used Aunjel for pet sitting because I knew her from when she went way out of her way to help me with training a pitbull I rescued. Not that I expected anything else but she was Outstanding! She kept our two dogs at her home for an extended weekend. Her house and yard were spotless. Dogs were minimally confined; either segregated or allowed to socialize depending on their temperament. Appropriate supervision was very apparent. We got daily text updates - some with photos or videos. And the dogs were very happy when we returned. Not a bit traumatized - I think they enjoyed it. I would not hesitate to user her again or recommend her to a friend.

Lauren came to our house to meet me and my cats. We all felt very at ease with her. She is willing to do whatever you ask of her to help your pets stay in their routine. I loved how she kept me updated through text and how she cleaned up after my pets so well. There wasn’t any litter strewn about for me to have to clean when I got home. I highly recommend her!

I have been so pleased with Kate's service. She took care of my dog, who needed regular medication, as well as my cat during my frequent business trips. I always felt safe and comfortable having her in my home. The bonus was getting pictures and updates via text about how my babies were doing. You certainly can't go wrong with Kate!

Conway’s Pet Nana takes care of our four dogs. She not only feeds and waters them but gives them lots of personal attention. While we are away she keeps us updated on how things are going. Mary is very professional, and we are fortunate to have her for our pet sitter.

I strive for excellence at my work and take pride in it. Also love animals and cleaning, which I have experience with both. I am a new mother and am looking for extra income for my family.

We are a married couple, 33 years together, and we are in our young 60s. Both of us are retired from professional jobs as well as from the military. We would like to house-sit or pet sit and we can provide as many references as you request. You will be happy you contacted us. Thank you.

I am offering to help with child care, pets, house-sitting and assistance with sick or elderly care. I can assist with light housekeeping and laundry if needed. I am a caretaker by nature, and with my hours cut, I find I have time to help others as I can.

I will take care of your dogs, cats, birds, and fish while you are out of town. I am willing to spend quality time with your pet so that they don't miss you as much while you are gone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
