Robert really is the BEST, so his business is appropriately named. I was in a pinch, needing a carpet cleaning for my rental house upon moving out, which happened to be over Memorial Day weekend. When I called, it was less than a week before the work needed to be done. My original quote from another company was way over budget, especially given that my primary goal was just that it be cleaned "good enough" to get my deposit back. It was an old, low-quality carpet that seemed to stain every time anything so much as touched it, not to mention the fact that the vanity area was carpeted (mistake! why do people do this?!) and had some cosmetic spills and even a hair dye spot, as well as a few pet stains throughout (many of which I didn't know about until the rooms were empty - darn sneaky critters!). Robert undercut the other guy's price by a good $175, and he held to that price when he returned to do the job and discovered more pet stains than I knew about when he gave his estimate. He was able to get everything out, including get the hair dye drips and the spot with the worst pet soiling. I couldn't in good conscience hold him to his original pricing because I realized he had gone way above and beyond for me. I ended up paying him more than he asked, but still saved at least $130 over the competitor I had originally booked with. There is a reason Robert has so many 5-star reviews. I will hire him for any future jobs I have, without hesitation.

My husband and I are very happy with our decision to switch to Weatherly Pool Care & Repair. He was understanding of our initial concerns with our former cleaning service and really put our minds at ease. He takes his time to make sure things are running smoothly not only to make his job easier, but also to make sure our equipment is working at accurately and energy efficient as possible. He is very knowledgeable, punctual and respectful and we look forward to working with him.

This company is THE best in efficiency and customer service! I'm so impressed with Eric and his team and give them my highest endorsement. I'm a senior citizen on a very limited budget and I needed a large, 3 piece sectional removed from my residence and taken to the dump. I checked with Goodwill in the hope that they had a work skills program in place that taught upholstery and would be willing to pick up my couch and use in their program. Instead, they wanted to charge me $300 to pick it up and dispose of it - money I definitely didn't have. I found the Thumbtack site and requested a quote. I received a total of 5 responses, one of which was Super Junk Removal. Eric went above and beyond reasonable to give me a quote I could afford, which was about a 1/4 of what he would normally charge! Eric and his team are friendly, trustworthy and professional. Look no further if you need junk removal or pressure washing work done. I'm so grateful for his very thoughtful consideration of my circumstances and kind willingness to help me at a nominal cost. God bless you, Eric!

I recommend these guys highly! Scheduling was a breeze...they were washing my house just 24 hours after I put in the request on Thumbtack. The crew was prompt, polite, and honestly seemed to enjoy their work. They took pride in making my home shine, and they even take credit cards! They were very thorough and worked hard to get rid of stains I hadn't even noticed. Great team.

I hired Nick to paint the interior of my 1100 sq ft townhouse. Nick has a friendly attitude, great with communication, and I trusted him to work at the house when I was not there. The finished job looks great (clean lines between floor/ceiling, even application), Nick purchased the paint colors based on my swatches and even offered input on how some colors would look next to one another (which I appreciated). He also patched up some minor wall damage prior to painting and those areas aren't even noticeable any more. The painters were very courteous when at my house and left it clean when they were finished. Would highly recommend!

Adrian took a list of really pesky "honey-do" tasks all over my house and worked through them in just a few hours. He was friendly, polite, clean (both in his appearance and cleaning up after himself) and explained everything he was doing. I have to add that he's the quietist worker I've ever had in my home. He managed to drill and sand right though my toddlers nap times without waking either of them up. I'd definitely recommend him to a friend.

Nathan and Danielle did an excellent job cleaning our windows and were a pleasure to work with! They were very thorough from start to finish, cleaning the insides and outsides of all the windows, as well as the screens. I appreciated how he explained how he arrived at the quote and explained why they clean the windows the way they do. Nathan even managed to clean some hard to reach windows, that he wasn't originally sure he would be able to do(within our budget). I am so pleased with the results and would highly recommend them for your window cleaning needs!

I scouted the competition and lucked out when Thumbtack found Window Genie. This job required an immediate deadline: pressure washing our house exterior and a courtyard and patio, dusting blinds and washing (inside and out) 50 windows, and painting a 100-foot wall. Melissa and Brent, the owners, found a way to meet our deadline, but the bigger benefit was the quality of the work and the character of Melissa, Brent, and the crew. Brent became a crew member in order to meet the deadline--and he not only washed windows, but he painted the fence. We would use Window Genie without any reservations.

They did the best cleaning of my windows that any company ever has...ever. They were very friendly and professional and very considerate of my property. Also, my ceiling fans were cleaned the way that I would have cleaned them, by actually wiping the blades with a wet cloth, not a feather duster like other companies have done. If you want perfection, this is who you hire.

I had the guys from Grand Canyon Power Washing out to my house to clean my driveway and sidewalk. After speaking to them on the phone they came out and they were on time. Once they arrived they got right to work prepping the driveway and then washing it down. They were fast and efficient , they made my dirty driveway and sidewalks look like new again. Great customer service and very friendly. I would recommend these guys and I will definitely have them back out again.

This polite young man goes beyond your average window cleaning company. He is meticulous and takes pride in his work. I have hired other window cleaning companies in the past but they end up being more expensive. I would not hesitate to hire Best View again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why is it important to clean your gutters?

Rain gutters, those easily-forgotten trenches that hang off the edge of your roof, protect your roof, walls and foundation from excess rainwater. When they get clogged with leaves, sticks and other wind-blown debris, they can no longer direct water away from your walls and foundation, and may become homes for pests and insects. They also become heavy enough to pull away from the house, preventing proper rainwater drainage and spoiling the appearance of your home. Experts recommend inspecting and cleaning your gutters twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, as part of your regular landscaping schedule. Gutter cleaning and maintenance is a fairly easy DIY job for some homeowners, especially on one-story homes. However, professional gutter cleaners have ladders tall enough to safely reach rain gutters, as well as the necessary tools to clean out the downspouts. Most gutter cleaning professionals can also make any necessary quick repairs.

Why do I need to clean my roof?

Over time, algae, moss, lichen, dirt and even salt (if you’re near the ocean) can build up on your roof. These buildups can affect the look and function of your roof unless removed. The buildup of organic materials such as moss on a shingle roof can prevent water from sloughing off as it normally would. Trapped water can rot the roof or cause early deterioration of your shingles. Even if you don’t have a shingle roof, moss and lichen absorb water, and that wet material adds weight and stress to your roof — as well as providing a home for insects and other pests, and collecting dirt. For reflective, cool roofs that redirect heat away from the home, algae and moss growths can hamper their ability to deflect the sun, which can affect utility bills. Visually, moss, dirt and algae growths on a roof can have a negative effect on perceived home value and curb appeal. For example, black algae streaks on your roof may cause a potential homebuyer to assume that the roof might need repair or replacement, when it only needs to be cleaned.

Can a roof be cleaned?

Yes roofs can be cleaned, and yes, it’s a real thing. Roof cleaning may actually be a wise investment to prolong the life of your roof. Overgrowth of moss, grime, lichen or algae can all shorten the life of your roof. If you have black streaks growing on your roof, they are likely caused by gloeocapsa magma algae spores that have landed on your roof and taken up residence. Once the algae has grown into streaks, the organism has usually been growing for several months and it’s high time to have it removed. If you live in a rainy part of the country, such as the Pacific Northwest, there’s a good chance you’ll find moss growing on your roof at some point. The northern part of your roof, as well as any parts that remain shaded all day, will provide a wet, cool haven for moss to flourish. Unfortunately this water-absorbing moss can damage your shingle roof, leading to rot if not removed. Beyond roof health and function, a clean roof can boost your curb appeal and potentially boost your home’s resale value. The national average for roof cleaning costs ranges between $270 and $350, although prices can be higher depending on how large your roof is, how steep your roof is, and what type of cleaning is necessary. Typically pros use either a pressure wash or chemical wash (made with a concentrated bleach solution) to remove algae, lichen, moss and dirt.

What chemicals are used to clean roofs?

Roof cleaning is done to remove moss, lichen, algae, and buildup of other grime and dirt. There are several methods for roof cleaning, which can include a chemical soft wash, pressure washing, low-pressure washing and hand washing. When a chemical soft wash is used, a bleach mixture is sprayed onto the roof. The bleach-based solution is absorbed by the algae or moss, which dies from exposure to the chemical. The roof is then sprayed with a low-pressure rinse of water, which loosens the now-dead material, allowing it to slide off the roof.

For homeowners, the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends a mixture of 50 percent laundry-strength liquid chlorine bleach and 50 percent water. Professional roof cleaning companies will use an industrial mixture that is still safe but may be more effective in eliminating algae and moss growths. Asphalt shingle roofs are the most common type of roof, but each roofing material will have its own cleaning needs, so it’s best to consult with your roofing pro before diving in. Don’t do it yourself unless you can safely navigate your roof, the chemicals and a sprayer system. When in doubt, leave it to the pros.

How much does it cost to clean a roof?

The national average for roof cleaning costs ranges between $270 and $350. Factors that can affect the cost to clean your roof are the height of your house, the size and pitch (steepness) of your roof, and the complexity of your roof’s design and accessibility. Geographic location also plays a role in roof cleaning costs as regional labor rates and area costs to do business will vary. There are several ways to clean a roof. The most common is pressure washing. Industrial pressure washers can spray over 3,000 pounds per square inch (psi) of water — which is much too powerful for roof cleaning, and may tear off shingles and damage your roof. Confirm that the roof-cleaning pro you choose will only use a low-pressure sprayer to protect your roof investment. For large algae or moss growths, pros often recommend a combination of low-pressure washing with a bleach-based chemical solution. This is referred to soft washing and should handily remove any growths taking over your roof.
