After our upstairs toilet leaked through the bathroom floor/garage roof, Charles was able to quickly repair the roof and replaced the baseboards in our bathroom all for a very reasonable price. His work speaks for itself, he took the time to ensure that our baseboards and the caulking on the tile floor matched as close as possible, his technician Jaime did a great job texturing the garage roof. Overall we are very happy with the work that was done, Charles was very knowledgable, professional and we highly recommended taking advantage of his services.

Richard and his crew did a great job for us!! :) We hired him to add a sidewalk, slabs, and a block wall. All of the work was done in 2 days! This app doesn't seem to let me add the photos from my phone but I can tell you that they speak a thousand words. Night and day difference. We would definitely hire Richard again in the future!

We had Sal lay a ~400sf concrete back patio. They were there at 6am (when he said they would be) and were finished around noon. They prepped the ground and the concrete truck showed up at 9am. Everything was like clockwork. They have concrete laying down to a science. I thought Sal's pricing was very reasonable and competitive. His guys were very respectful and friendly and they cleaned up the area very well when they were finished. The patio looks great and we are excited to use it this winter! If I ever need any more concrete work done, I will be calling Sal!

Charlie and crew just finished laying 12+ yards of concrete for a patio and driveway extension - over half of that between the house and block wall! Charlie communicated very well how the job would go and timelines - spot on all the way! Attention to detail is awesome and the slabs turned out great!

Hired Cosnova Construction to lay out a large piece of slab (aka concrete patio) and to remove tons and tons of dirt. The project was completed on time and the patio looks very clean. The crew is very professional and respectful. The guys were always on time. They also cleaned my street up after they removed the dirt(excess dirt in driveway). Prices are very reasonable. My ONLY complaint was that they charge $60 to use their credit card machine. I recommend an app for your cell phones guys! I would def recommend them and use them in the future

We were very pleased with the work we had Pacific Stone Flooring complete. We had Ivan and his crew raise our ceiling from an 8ft ceiling to a vaulted ceiling and it turned out great. They also did the drywall and texturing of the entire ceiling of the house. They wired and did the recessed lighting in the house, moved some of the air ducts as well. In addition to that we had him do the flooring in the house too!! The floor turned out great too! I would recommend Pacific Stone to anyone that needs some work done on their house.

Exterior paint, concrete deck installation, replace pedestrian door, stucco repair, minor roof repair. We couldn't be more pleased. We were listened to on what our needs and preferences were, suggestions were made, but not forced on us in anyway. The conduct of all the trades people was exemplary. They were on time for everything, completion time estimates were accurate and we knew exactly what was happening at every stage of the process. The pricing was fair and adjustments made because of the extras we requested during the project was also fair. Completely professional. This is a great contractor, we call him first for all our projects.

Dave was excellent. He did an 1800 sq foot job for my 3rd floor condo in Tempe. The installation of the laminate wood floors at a diagonal took 3 days. He lifted the baseboards and then reinstalled them. He also did the tile for my fireplace which came out fantastic. I prefer laminate floors to hardwood floors for style but I would trust Dave with either laminate or wood flooring. I also chose a rubber underlayment to minimize sound and Dave installed it perfectly. Very professional job. Open communication, if I had future work, I would definitely use Dave again.

J5s did our front yard landscaping, concrete walkway from the front of my home to the back and a concrete slab we wanted for additional parking. Jeff the owner was onsite with his team, they did a spectacular job, completed the job on time all for a great price... J5s even helped us with some repairs on our drip irrigation system and didn't charge for it. Jeff is an honest and really good landscaper. I would recommend him to anyone.

Fast and First Painting did a quality job on our house. Our project entailed a full exterior paint job of the house and trim, patio concrete stain, and driveway power wash and seal. Mark and his team were professional and knowledgeable. They were attentive to detail ensuring the house was properly masked and covered during the project. We were very pleased with the work and would highly recommend their services, we have more work to be done and Mark will be our first call once ready to proceed.

A couple of years ago Bram Flooring installed carpet in my home. I was so impressed with the installers. Not only did they move all my furniture and remove my old carpet they vacuumed and cleaned the concrete before laying the new pad and carpet. And in addition vacuumed the new carpet. Sometimes carpet will stretch after time but not this carpet. It is still just as tight as the day it was installed. I have referred Bram Flooring to many of my friends and they have all been completely satisfied.

Jeff at C&J was great to work with and his team was exceptional. C&J installed an additional driveway and pad in front of my back gate. I got 3 bids and Jeff won out with his knowledge and experience by matching the existing design of the other side of my driveway. Everyone else was more worried about using up the 6 yards of concrete they ordered and wanted to just slop useless concrete up to the foundation of my house. The job was completed at the price promised and was completed inside of a week from bid to finish! I wouldn't hesitate to use Jeff and C&J again or to refer them to a friend. Thank for making this a good experience Jeff and C&J team!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
