Jeanne was the best house and dog sitter one could expect. She managed the care of our home with ease and most importantly she lovingly cared for our 4 dogs while we were away for 3 weeks. Her fee was very reasonable and we would enthusiastically recommend her services to anyone needing pet care short or long. thanks Jeanne 5 stars

We hired Anita because she appeared to have a heart of gold and a genuine love for animals. She was kind enough to meet with us and our baby Zoe. After careful research and many interviews we enthusiastically picked Anita to care for Zoe. Anita was informative, patient and willing to provide the care and duties we requested. Unfortunately, our beloved Zoe passed away from cancer before Anita had the opportunity to spend time with her. We didn't want our research to go to waste, so if you are looking for a pet sitter we hope you give Anita a try.

We have 2 dogs and a cat who needed care while we were out of town for a wedding. Our cat needs two medications, twice daily once being an insulin shot and the other being an oral medication. After speaking with Rachael we chose AZ Mama Bear Pet Care because they have experience with administering those types of medications. They did a great job. The pets seemed happy and well taken care of. We even got photos sent to us while we were away. We will definitely call them again if we need a pet sitter.

Leslie has helped our family for over six years, even on short notice, if she can't come personally, she will send someone reliable from the rescue to fill in. We have seen the work she does with nursing care from the injured animals and with our own pets that clearly demonstrates her devotion and love of animals. Her costs are very reasonable, but if she charged triple what she does, we'd still look to her before someone else. Leslie can groom horses, dogs and cats. She'll even take the time to dematt a cat rather than shamefully shaving a long haired cat. She is patient and non stress causing to fractious and older pets. She shows up when expected to and takes excellent care of pets. We have no complaints for improvements.

I was nervous about hiring a dog sitter since it would require a lot of trust up front (leaving our beloved pet and opening up our house etc). Brinn was nothing but professional and equipped right from the start. I had a good feeling after our phone interview and the meet and greet was even better. Our dog Carl had some specific needs right from the start, being a three-legged rescue, but Brinn handeled him with such ease and patience. She's worked with him on many different levels like crate training, walking, and "watch me." She has always gone above and beyond since working with us as far as accomadating our pets needs and even getting our very shy chameleon to come out and hang. Carl is always so excited when she comes over because he knows he is in good care. I would reccomend her to anyone, anytime!

I've used Two Dogs Dancing for overnight stays at my home with my pack of very boisterous corgis, Pom and rat terrier and one horse. We have an older corgi with a brain tumor and are not comfortable leaving him unattended for extended periods of time. This summer we scheduled a 10 day over seas vacation. We were able to enjoy our vacation knowing that all our pets would be well care for. We received daily updates and pictures. All our pets were properly pampered while we were gone including our horse, who doesn't understand why I don't provide the yummy carrots like Mary does. Our dogs are over joyed when they see Mary and Brandy outside of pet sitting. Our home was clean and in great condition when we returned and we were pleasantly surprised by a plate of freshly baked cookies.

Alicia is very kind, sweet and friendly. She arrived the time that was agreed upon and provided updates and pictures each time she took care of my mom’s cats. She is amazing she managed to get a picture of boots, the cat who hides all the time, and she was even able to pet him. I see him often and he does not let me near him. So I would say that Alicia is the “cat whisper” . My mom was very please with her services and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Alicia as a pet sitter.

We have used Lyndee's Pet Sitters for almost 7 years. Our 3 Labs all require meds and one of our girls is diabetic, requiring insulin shots twice daily. Our girls are very picky about their food and are on special diets. We entrust their care to Lynda and feel confident that she will take the best of care of them and our home. We have used Lynda for overnights from 1 night to 15 nights - she keeps us posted on our girls and we depend and appreciate her outstanding service. We are so glad that Lynda was referred to us!

Lynda is all around an amazing individual. I cannot say enough great things about her. She has been caring for my Boxer and Siberian Husky pups, who are both 1 1/2 years old and high energy, with ease. She walks them on mornings when I cannot, feeds them, takes them on special trips to the pet store to pick out their own toys, and even invites them into her own home. Lynda goes above and beyond what I could ever image a pet sitter to provide, and she does it all with a great personality and attitude. She's sociable, thoughtful and always has great ideas to share about making both yours and your dogs life happy and healthier. Their should be more Lynda's in the world. Thank you for all that you do.

Tricia was exceptional. She clearly loves dogs, is very flexible, trustworthy, and even stopped by to pick up my 2 dogs which makes life easier before a trip. I've used many other dog sitters in the past and Tricia would be my first choice. She even sent pictures of the pair while I was away. And when I returned from my vacation, my 2 dogs were more relaxed than ever. Clearly my dogs were well taken care of. Would highly recommend Tricia's.

My eighth year old daughter; Brittney wanted a horse for her birthday, that wasn’t happening! Lol However, I ran across Golden Spur Ranch and knew this was what I could afford. She and her 9 friends enjoyed the two horses. One horse is white with the bluest eyes and does tricks! The kids didn’t care about anything else except the horses! I may not have been able to buy a horse for Brittney but I managed to make her and our day! Thank you Golden Sour Ranch!!

It is with pleasure that I offer this recommendation for Julie Daly and her pet sitting service. I was in (desperate) need of someone who is dependable, compassionate, and gentle, and also someone who could provide the extra attention needed for a dog that struggles with separation anxiety. Julie came to my rescue and I consider myself very lucky to have found her. Although I have known Julie for only a few months, she has lovingly watched my anxiety-ridden boy multiple times a week so I could run daily errands, go to dinner or a movie with friends and travel out-of-town to be with my gravely ill father. She is a godsend. Her easy manner was a good match for my nervous Beagle and it is such a relief to know someone so caring and calm is with him. Since meeting Julie, I have peace of mind whenever I leave whether it is for a few hours or for two weeks. Julie is a wonderful individual who conducts herself in a friendly and professional manner. She is trustworthy and very generous of her time and most importantly, gentle with my anxious dog. I can tell she genuinely enjoys taking care of animals and feels deeply responsible for their well-being. I appreciate that Julie takes the time to let my dog warm up to her and I love seeing how well he responds to her. Although it's always difficult to leave our pets, knowing that Julie will be taking care of my boy gives me piece of mind. It is without hesitation that I highly recommend Julie to anyone who is looking for a pet sitter who is kind, trustworthy, responsible and compassionate.

I have known Stacey for over 12 years now. She trained my daughter who is now 25 for a number of years when she was younger and led her to be 2nd in AZYQHA in the state at 12 years old. I recently in last 3 years have reconnected with her to take lessons and have bought my own horse with her help. She works with me and my horse. I trust her completely with mine and my horse’s training and welfare. She is extremely knowledgeable about all facets of riding, showing, care and breeding. She has a great demeanor as I have found that many trainers are gruff and rough around the edges. She always has a smile and a positive attitude. I recommend that whatever level you are at, she will be great to work with.

Lisa is hands down the best dog/pet/ house sitter we have ever hired. I trust her completely with my house and my pets! She is professional and keeps detailed notes of your instructions and her experiences while you're away. Lisa goes the extra mile and takes time to note things like your dog's favorite place to pet, favorite place and toys in the house. I never worry about taking my human family out of town when Lisa is available to watch my 2 dogs and 1 cat! My family is so busy, and with an infant at home, travel is always difficult enough. It is wonderful to have the peace of mind and know my boys are happy! I think Lisa pays more attention to them... than we are able to on a regular day! They sure are glad to see her every time.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
