I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease about three years ago. It came as quite a shock. I’d never really been sick before, but now I felt as if I’d been given a death sentence. At first, I tried to remain positive. I joined a “Parkie” support group and my wife joined one for caregivers. Most of the people in my group were a lot worse off than I was. You’d think this would make me feel better but it didn’t at all. I started getting more and more depressed. My doctor and the people at the Parkinson’s Center were very supportive but they didn’t offer counseling services. I was also scared about taking an anti-depressant that might interact with my Parkinson’s medication. Finally, I reached a point where I was so depressed my wife got scared I might kill myself. She insisted I find a therapist and asked around until someone told her about Ilisa. My wife went with me to the first appointment. I got a good feeling about Ilisa during that meeting. After that, I continued on my own. Therapy with Ilisa has been extremely helpful. We’ve been working on a few different things. First, she showed me how to use mindfulness techniques that enabled me to stop obsessing about my symptoms or spend hours on the Internet reading about Parkinson’s. She also helped me get some perspective. I still have some good years ahead of me. I have a great marriage and a loving family. I’ve made new friends through the Parkinson’s community. And there’s always a chance of a cure. I think what’s helped most though is the warmth and understanding she always brings to our sessions. It’s such a relief to be able to say things that other people might find shocking. Just being able to express my rage and fear in a safe environment has been a great relief. I still have Parkinson’s, but I know now it doesn’t have to ruin the rest of my life. I thank Ilisa for that.

I was really looking forward to going away to school but my freshman year turned out to be a disaster. I’m kind of an introvert but that never stopped me from making friends before. The school was so huge and there were so many people in my dorm that it kind of freaked me out. A lot of them, including my suite mates, were into partying, which I’m not, so the constant noise really got to me. I was too ashamed to tell my parents how unhappy I was, so I just tried to do my best. But I got so anxious and depressed I went to see the school counselor. She was nice and sympathetic but not really that helpful. I thought I was going to lose it, so I finally called home and told them what was going on. My dad is from the city where the school is so he asked some of his friends there about therapists who were good at working with people my age. I ended up with a list of people to try and saw three of them before choosing Ilisa. I’m not sure if her having kids in college made a difference but she seemed to understand exactly what I was going through, which was a big relief. She also helped me deal with the incredible stress and depression I was feeling with EMDR. It’s a pretty weird process, but it works! She also helped me understand the reasons why I was having such a hard time and helped me come up with strategies for dealing with them. I’m in my sophomore year now and pretty much back to my old self. I’m glad Ilisa’s there and will go back to her if I start to feel anxious or depressed again.

After being married for more than 20 years, I figured my wife and I shouldn’t need anyone’s help to work out our problems. But our fights kept getting worse and worse until I was so upset and angry all the time that I insisted we enter therapy. We both did some research and ended up agreeing (for once) that we wanted to schedule a session with Ilisa. At first, we were uncomfortable discussing the intimate details of our marriage. But Ilisa was so warm and understanding, she soon put us at ease. I worried that she might take sides, but she was completely even-handed. She gave us tools that we could use whenever we started to get upset with each other. They worked beautifully and we both started feeling a lot better and more hopeful. Looking back, I don’t think our marriage would have survived without her.

Kim, is an outstanding Christian Counselor. She has incredible knowledge and understands how to reach every individual she makes contact with. We are in Marriage Counseling (2 months now) to see where we stand after 31 years of marriage. Kim has helped both myself and spouse get to know ourselves and each other in a way I never imagined. There is no perfect marriage, but Kim has a way to bring out pure honesty and let the healing begin. There are no promises in marriage, but I can make one promise. Kim WILL make you a better person. And that alone, makes Kim an amazing counselor and person to work with. I look forward to my continued journey with Kim as she and the lord help define who I am. Kim is down to earth, believes in the Christian faith and will help you with your deepest problems. She listens and becomes your friend as you both reach into the depths of your soul. There, you will find out who you are and Kim will help you get to your destination through God.

I can't begin to say how thankful I was to find Kim. I am going through a divorce at 32 after a affair that was my fault. After taking the personality test which at first I was skeptical I was able to completely open up. I believe the test helped Kim to really get to know me faster and understand some of the situations I was in and how I had gotten there. If there is anyone looking for a great marriage counselor or someone like me who wasn't sure where I was going I would recommend Kim!!!!

We went to Kimberly for "marriage counseling" for about 3 months. She helped us get to know each others needs ie. characters by taking and evaluating the Arno Profile System. She also gave us projects to work on but when one of the partners doesn't want to do them it does no good.

I have found my training and interactions with Linda have really helped me to learn to stay-in-the-moment and to be a much more caring spouse. My listening skills have changed for the better and I am able to stay calm even when things get a little chaotic around me. She has helped me to see and understand the situations which can cause me to become overwhelmed and trigger some of the negative emotions I have experienced in the past when interacting with my spouse. I would highly recommend her as a marriage and couples therapist. Arthur P.

Linda does a fantastic job. Has really helped with my relationship - particularly anxiety and depression. She has taught me coping skills to help me deal with daily issues as they arise. She is caring, responsive and one of the few counselors who actually listens to me and structures my treatment plan to my specific needs. Of everyone I've been to (still with Linda) she'd be one of the few I would ever go back to.
