David and his team are without question the best out there! I hired him to paint the interior of my home as well as refinish the cabinets in my kitchen and he and his team did a phenomenal job! They were not only professional, but also were very detailed in ensuring things were done right the first time. I had several quotes and David was by far the best price. If you are looking for a someone to help with any home remodeling or repairs you should look no further and hire Time4LSM. I highly recommend David and his team and will use them again and again for any jobs I need to have done to my home.

Paul did a great job cleaning up a wiring mess in out kitchen. Old wires were replaced and unnecessary wires were removed. He also made suggestions for wiring in the garage which was not even included in the kitchen job. We're very happy with the end results. Outstanding work. Thanks.

I don't know where to start with this review. Mauricio and his group, to me, are the best. You will not regret your decision selecting Summit Stoneworks. After getting numerous quotes, buying and returning slabs and canceling with others, I selected Summit. My project started with just refacing cabinets and turned into a full blown kitchen remodel. Mauricio provided advice and support that any other company would have charged for. I could have not completed the counter top project without him and his team. Day of install, I was completely unprepared. Cabinets and island still needed hours of work but Mauricio jumped in and provided help that he did not need to do. He also switched around his schedule and was able to install that day. I have no words that can say how grateful I am! Truly outstanding work Summit Stoneworks provided. They should be proud to have Mauricio on their team!

After a bathroom remodel, I was left with some broken shelves in my bedroom closet. The contractors wanted an outrageous amount to fix the damage. Herb and his wife came out and got it done in a couple of hours at less than half the cost.

Fantastic experience working with Micheal and the GPS team remodeling my back patio ceiling with stained wood planks. Quote was received shortly after my request and they provided valuable input on the project. The GPS team always followed up on my questions. Once hired, they did an excellent job installing the new wood ceiling on time and in a professional manner. This big project took one week to complete and they always showed up on time and cleaned up after each day of work. One of the best experiences if not the best experience I have had working with a contractor. I would highly recommend working with Micheal and his team. Thank you GPS!

John was wonderful. This project started out as a simple replace some patio wood that had some water damage. It turned into a LOT more than that. John kept with it the whole way, helping us save money where we could. But, the project ended up costing 7 or 8 times more than we had anticipated. Not because of anything John did, but because of how bad the water damage was. John got it fixed using some sub-contractors for painting and roof work, with no problem. Great job John! I highly recommend him for your project! Scott M.

These guys tackled a tough job and left the house exceptionally clean. We bought a home intending to remodel. We wanted to remove two columns and discovered the house was not build to the plans. We had an engineer provide a fix with details and load calcs, but that required removing a glulam and replacing with a larger one -- and my family has already moved in. I put up plastic everywhere, but it turns out I probably didn't need it. As one cut drywall, another held a vacuum to catch all the dust. Every time they created sawdust with the planer or a saw, and every time insulation fell through the ceiling crack, they cleaned it up right away, so it never got airborne and spread thorough the house. They installed it exactly to specifications and even addressed a couple unrelated issues without being asked. We expected it to take 6 hours, they were done in 4. I think the bid was high, but they were ready to go and I needed it done right away. After seeing the care they took, I think it was worth the price. Btw, I messed up ordering the beam, so Alfredo had to arrange to have a team come at a later date without him. They came in the afternoon when they had finished their day-jobs. Alfredo arrived as they finished to walk through and get paid.

5 star company! Had them take out our builder grade tub and twin sink, install new higher profile toilet and put in a large walk in shower with sprayers at both ends with center entrance. Narsay and Sammy Bello did a great job explaining their process, timelines and how to save expense with our selections. Their tile guy was phenomenal as well. After we agreed on price and timelines we decided to add some extras like new lighting fixtures we had purchased and two very heavy mirrors - they agreed to hang them at no additional charge. We also had them install backsplash in our kitchen area and it turned out much better than our expectations. We had selected tile already for it and Sammy took the time to go shop for something we might like better and we loved his choice. He took our tile back to return it as well. Two very hardworking and experienced guys that I'd recommend for a major master bath remodel or kitchen remodel. Our son liked the work and is considering doing a similar project and we recommended Venus Homes LLC to him as well.

Carson was the Gen. Contractor on our house remodeling. It was an extensive remodeling of both exterior and interior work. The exterior required retaining and decorative walls with extensive regrading and backfill work, new roofing, stucco and painting. The interior included new kitchen cabinets, removal of walls, rebuilding of an entry coat closet with angled walls, new drywall, hanging of new doors, new dryer vent and floor tile. There was a mistake on the dimensions for the new quartz countertop which Carson insisted had to be removed and replaced. This impresed me as he backed me up and not the subcontractor. Carson was easy to work with, knows his business, and was a professional. The quality of the work by Carson Rogers and his subs was of high quality and better than a lot of residencial contractors in the business today. We are very happy with the outcome. I will be calling on Carson Rogers to do our bathroom remodelings next spring.

Ed designed an outdoor kitchen for my backyard that is centered around a pizza oven that he built, and included spaces for my existing gas grill and smoker. Considering myself designed challenged, I had only a few ideas of what I did and didn't want in an outdoor living space. The plans that Ed created on his computer cad program were detailed but easy to read, and included many creative, yet practical ideas for what my yard could be. I was able to provide input at every stage of the process and always felt that my requests were heard and incorporated. In addition, the pricing for the job was clearly stated in easy to read line-item format on a spread sheet that left no doubt as to what was being purchased. If there were any additions or changes, those were updated and shown before the work was authorized. All of the individual contractors that he brought in to work on various stages of the project (pizza oven, masonry, pergola, artificial grass) were monitored and their work was inspected carefully by him at each critical juncture. Ed also checked in with me frequently to assess my satisfaction on jobs completed as the project progressed. The work was completely transparent and I felt informed about everything that was happening. His passion for his work is evidenced by the way he brings his own creativity to work for the customer's preferences - and he enjoys figuring out the best way to make all of the little details fit together to make the most amazing final project. I would highly recommend working with this company if you have any outdoor home project!

Look no further, you have found the best of the best! Slade and his team are a dream to work with for a homeowner. He helped my family manage a 3,000sq ft total remodel - 3 bathrooms, kitchen, floor plan changes, etc. He’s not only intelligent, responsive, reliable, professional with high integrity, he’s also just a total blast to work with. He helped us navigate and problem solve many challenges as they came up during the renovation process. He keeps a clean job site and has total respect for your home. His crew is respectful and always on time. They clean up the job site at the end of each day and are a joy to be around. We enjoyed our experience so much with Slade and his team, we took the leap of faith to do another renovation with he and his team. That’s saying a lot as renovations are not fun! I would recommended him to my friends and family 365 days a year! Go for it! You won’t be sorry. Attaching some before and after photos.

CDS came highly recommended to me by a friend when I was in need of some remodel work on my home. I contacted CDS and Pablo was quick in responding to my request and provided me with very reasonable price, compared to others. I chose to move forward with CDS, not only for the pricing, but because they acted professionally and truly cared about meeting my needs and getting the job done right. Pablo is easy to get along with and very dependable; he answered all my questions, showed up as promised and returned calls promptly. Pablo and his team completed the job on-time and the outcome was amazing. I am very pleased with the level of service and quality of work that I received. I highly recommend CDS for any of your construction needs. Give CDS a try, you will NOT be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.
