Moon Mermaid has been "swimming" to the Phoenix Comic Con for the past two years. In the youth programming area, Moon reads to kids, talks with them and has a photo shoot as well. Her regalia looks very real and last year, I heard a child run away from her chat time yelling to her parents that this was a REAL mermaid. This year Moon also conducted a great craft for kids - making jellyfish.
What impresses me most is Moon's way with kids. She exemplifies all the things she talks about when she reads her books. She is gentle, kind, and very focused on her youngest fans. They adore her but, at least a part of that, is a two way exchange. She connects with the children in a way that is not patronizing and not childish. She is respectful of children and they know that.
Overall, Moon is a wonderful character for children of all ages. She and her team have been easy to schedule and great to work with. As she arrives in costume, her handlers are a necessary part of the experience. They are dressed as pirates and do a good job lending fun and "authenticity" to the part. I highly recommend Moon Mermaid for any organization hoping to give children a fun and meaningful fantasy experience.
