Hello, I am currently a Doctoral student in piano at ASU. I have two Masters degree from Ithaca College in piano and organ performance. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music at Hamilton College.
I am currently on the piano faculty at the Arizona School for the Arts and serve as the collaborative pianist at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and Northern Arizona University. I also taught at Brophy College Prepatory as the assistant choir director.

We had an excellent experience with Sungmin. He was the first to teach my child about true musicality and understanding what the music was trying to convey, and because of moving and covid weve had 4 other teachers. He picked good repertoire, put on great studio recitals and invited us to his magnificent recitals. You want a teacher who knows what it is like to perform and collaborate with other musicians. You want a teacher who is fun and technical and can push the student and be open to exploring new options as well. Very flexible. Highly recommend. Great value and good experience.

I had my first lesson today, and Sungmin Kim is a great teacher! He has the experience to back up his knowledge, and his teaching style pushes you, but in the best ways to reach your true potential! Very nice and patient as well. He had no problem slowing down to my pace to make sure I was really understanding the material. He gave a ton of little side tips along the way to ensure I was doing the things he was teaching in the correct ways, and it is these little details that make a world of difference. By the end of the lesson, my confidence in my playing increased a lot, and we had set clear goals on where to go from here so that progress can be tracked. Not a second of time was wasted during this lesson. There are so many valuable points he has to teach. Highly recommend taking lessons with Sungmin, he is worth it!

Sungmin has been a very good instructor. He responded very fast when I first reached out on thumbtack and since then he’s been flexible with scheduling and subject matter. He has a structure which I appreciate but also encourages me to make my own choices on what/how to learn.

My two children (girl & boy - 4 & 6 years old) thrived in their piano lessons under Sungmin's tutelage. Sungmin's passion for piano music & performance was readily apparent and transferred easily from teacher to students. Sungmin's instruction had a depth of artistry and nuance to it that i had not seen from other instructors and it was a joy to witness it flow to my boy & girl. I would highly recommend Sungmin to others seeking a passionate and very highly qualified music and piano instructor (& performer/mentor) for their kids or for themselves!
