The task was ambiguous. I knew what I wanted, yet my mother whom owns the property had a completely different ideal. Yet through it all the got it done at a very agreeable price. They pruned 3 fruit trees that were badly over grown and cleared the even more overgrown under brush in just a few hours and cut down a sapling that was blocking the gate entrance in my mother's backyard. Excellent workers that waisted no time!

We chose AAA Family Tree Landscape to remove several large trees and haul away a large pile of branches we had pruned from other trees. Jose responded to my Thumbtack listing immediately, he and his guys came out to look at our job the same day. After a detailed consultation resulting in a bid we were pleased with, we scheduled the following day to do the job. They showed up on time and worked really hard all day. We are so pleased with the work they did, they raked the whole area, it looks great after they were finished. We even enjoyed having the whole team around, they worked like machines and were pleasant and thorough. We are more than pleased with both the completed job and the price, having the job completed the day after I posted with Thumbtack was a bonus! We will definatedly call Jose the next time we need landscaping work done and have already recommended them to both family and friends.

Yes, they gave me the lowest bid- but I actually picked them because they carry full liability insurance. No one else did. As to the work- OMG. Professional, fast, pleasant. They took out a monstrous pine and left no evidence of the tree ...and cleaned up completely. HIGHLY recommended. They also prune and care for trees, so we will continue to use them.

Excellent work! Larry completed a full yard clean-up of my property and surpassed all my expectations. He pruned over a dozen trees with beautiful results, trimmed all plants, hauled away debris and gave me a whole new yard. He's very knowledgable, professional, punctual and a pleasure to work with. Will definitely be using again and again in the future.

Generally, I am satisfied with my experience with Az Grand Canyon Landscaping. A two man crew arrived right on time to prune the trees. There must have been a miscommunication with Walter at the front office because they didn’t bring an extension ladder to reach the higher branches, although I had described the height of the trees and sent photos when setting up the appointment. I do not own the kind of ladder they needed, so I suggested that we reschedule so that they could bring the proper equipment on another day. They said they would do their best to prune the trees by climbing up in them and using a Telescoping Pole with Pruner and Pole Saw. If I was not satisfied with the result, I could reschedule another appointment. Turns out they did a pretty good job with the equipment they had. I was satisfied with the work performed to the extent that I did not feel it necessary to schedule a follow-up appointment. I appreciate that they did a thorough clean-up and hauled away the debris when they finished the job. They could have come better prepared, but I commend them for their effort.

I hired American Landscape to work on my large, overgrown front yard. This included pruning several huge mesquite trees that were full of mistletoe, removing palo verde trees, trimming up cactus, cleaning up and hauling away several trailer loads of debris. I am very impressed with the professionalism of Forrest & Steven. They communicated with me on every detail. Forrest went above and beyond what I expected, utilizing plants and rock that were available to create a beautiful, flowing landscape design. I have other projects I would like to begin. I will be hiring American Landscape again.

I am so pleased with Barry's quick response, preparedness and quality work ethic. He has a great pruning "eye" and trimmed my oak tree, and now it's the best on the block. He's definitely a "keeper" in my book. Great job, Barry, and thanks.

I set up a time for Chris Ray to come out and look at my trees, and some other projects I have going on. Chris is a true Arborist. We spent several hours discussing what needed to be done with the trees, and just 'shooting the breeze' on other topics. His quote wasn't the cheapest in town, but I wasn't looking for a quick-and-dirty pruning. I wanted a professional pruning that would leave my trees healthy and looking well tended, not like they'd just received a second-rate hack-job or butchering. Chris' knowledge of trees from growth patterns to hormones convinced me (and more importantly, my wife) that he was the right man for the job. We agreed to have him come out the next day, and despite a late start, he worked throughout the afternoon and evening, even being careful to leave a doves nest undisturbed, with 99.9% of his work being done with hand tools. The end result was a very balanced pruning and trimming, albeit with a drastically different looking pair of trees (it was the first time in 4+ years for a professional pruning). We plan to have Tucson Hands On Services back over the winter to cable our multi-trunk mesquites together, and will most likely have them back at least once a year for regular maintenance. Our neighbor across the street saw the quality of work that was done, and also hired Chris to come back to address a leaning tree.

I would highly recommend David for your projects! It was my husband and I's first time using thumbtack. We were nervous but so glad we used it. David did a better job than professional landscaping companies we've experienced before. He was very professional, timely and great with doing exactly what we asked for! We asked him to make us a paver patio, plant sod for our lawn and prune our trees and bushes. He brought a lot of experience with him and finished the job quickly! He even helped us set up an irrigation system! Our yard is perfect! We made the right choice choosing David!

I take pride in my work .I take into account my work had my name on it and I wouldn't like any bad reviews so I definitely make sure the customer is satisfied.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
