Wish there was an option for more than 5 stars. Rick and his team removed a huge pine tree (at least 3x the height of our house) from our front yard, hauled away all the wood and cleaned up the debris. Rick and his team members were courteous and professional, arrived at the scheduled time and demonstrated tremendous knowledge and skill. Rick cut the tree and had it drop exactly where he said it would. It was an impressive sight to see, and the accuracy was truly amazing. Rick and his team did an exceptional job and the hard work was much appreciated. We are more than pleased, and will definitely refer friends and family to Rick for any future landscape and/or tree trimming/removal work. He truly demonstrated that he is a top-notch professional and an expert in his field. He is, without a doubt, the one to choose for any tree trimming/removal and landscaping needs.

Gabe and Rob were very receptive to my questions and needs. I needed extra things done, such as straightening out a gutter, and repairing a portion of the patio roof, sealing it, and applying the Elasta-seal coat. They also painted wrought iron fencing, the gate, and security door. The additional cost was extremely reasonable. They did a beautiful job on the two coats of paint on everything. Their prep work prior to painting, certainly played a big part in such a superior job. I highly recommend them. Sandi F.

Ociel and Anthony helped me by installing new kits in both of our water saver toilets and a brand new pull-out kitchen faucet. I also had them install a permanent shower curtain rod attached to the wall since the spring tension rod was always falling down. They did a good job and cleaned up any mess. Everything is working well now!

Rain damage caused interior damage in the bedroom. Nick was able to diagnose the problem which has been misdiagnosed in a previous repair, causing extensive water damage in the wall and window framing. He had to reframe the window and repair interior and exterior walls. He also corrected the problem that created the damage. He did an excellent job at a reasonable price.

I was very happy with the work Marc and Mo did to revise and refresh the landscaping in my yard. I loved Marc's suggestion for river rock to channel the rain water from my gutter downspouts to "moats" around my trees. The walkways they created transformed my back yard. I especially appreciated how Marc cleaned up the yard each afternoon after they finished for the day. I would highly recommend them.

I had a leaky shower faucet that constantly dripped. I got a bid from Horton Construction, which was very reasonable. Excellent communication, both by email ,and phone. They could come by the next day! We had to reschedule due to a problem on my end, but it was only another day away. They arrived after calling to say they were on their way. Very professional, and pleasant, had it fixed in no time! Will definitely use again! Thanks Bill!

David is a find. Good old fashioned workmanship. He gave us two estimates for our roof recoating. One with one coat and one with 3 coats and a 5 year warrantee which can be extended every 5 years with one new coat. I got several bids for the job and his prices were comparable or lower to all other bids I got. The coating is high quality, industrial grade. David fixed several details on the roof –gutters that weren’t draining well, dips in the roof that could hold water, a chimney that had never been coated and a conduit for alarm system wires that needed to be propped up. He’ll return if we put in solar panels to make sure the paneling is installed in a way that won’t hurt the roof. The roof looks great. David will be back to give it a final look over in a few weeks. I chose David because he was highly recommended by a friend of mine who is a real estate agent. So far I’m quite satisfied by both price and product.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why is it important to clean your gutters?

Rain gutters, those easily-forgotten trenches that hang off the edge of your roof, protect your roof, walls and foundation from excess rainwater. When they get clogged with leaves, sticks and other wind-blown debris, they can no longer direct water away from your walls and foundation, and may become homes for pests and insects. They also become heavy enough to pull away from the house, preventing proper rainwater drainage and spoiling the appearance of your home. Experts recommend inspecting and cleaning your gutters twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, as part of your regular landscaping schedule. Gutter cleaning and maintenance is a fairly easy DIY job for some homeowners, especially on one-story homes. However, professional gutter cleaners have ladders tall enough to safely reach rain gutters, as well as the necessary tools to clean out the downspouts. Most gutter cleaning professionals can also make any necessary quick repairs.

How much does it cost to have gutters cleaned?

Professional gutter cleaning and maintenance should be done once or twice a year to remove debris and check for damage to the roof and gutter. The national average cost for rain gutter cleaners ranges from $100 to $130. A number of factors affect the costs, including the combined length of the gutters, the size of the house, the location of the gutters, and any risks posed to the professional cleaner. Some companies based their cost estimates on the linear square footage of the gutters; for example, 200 linear square feet of gutters on a standard, single-story ranch-style home costs an average of $125 to clean. The cost goes up for second- and third-story gutters and those in hard-to-reach places, like a roof with an unusually steep pitch. Expect to pay at least $100 more than standard prices if cleaning your home’s gutters requires extra safety precautions. Because spring and fall are gutter cleaners’ busiest seasons, some gutter cleaning and maintenance companies offer discounts during summer and winter months.

How often do you need to clean your gutters?

Gutter cleaning and maintenance is an important part of keeping up a home. Not only are clogged gutters unsightly, they can also lead to water damage in the house’s walls and roof. The best way to prevent that is to clean your gutters at least twice a year — experts recommend making it part of your spring cleaning and fall landscaping schedules. In the fall, trees lose their leaves and, in the spring, release seedpods and flower petals, all of which tend to end up in rain gutters. It’s a good idea to also have a professional gutter cleaner clear out your downspouts, too; clogged downspouts can make gutters backup and overflow.
