After purchasing our new construction home in the Sky Ridge Community, we had several contractors come out to submit design plans and bids. Being from the area and owning our previous home just 5 miles away, we had contractors we have used before also participate in the process. Ultimately we took a chance on the unknown and went with DG Construction. Our gamble paid off we ended up with a beautiful back yard and quickly learned to trust Owner David Gomez with his ideas. The process from start to finish was very smooth and his team was very professional and hard working. DG construction met all their timelines and delivered a transparent billing process that was easy to follow and didn't have any surprises. If you are a serious about using DG Construction reach out David and I am willing to let him show you an example of his work.

We used Carlos to frame out a new pantry in our existing home. His work is very good, and he is very prompt. The work was done in less than a day, and he left the area cleaner than when he arrived. I will definitely use him for future projects.

Duarte Building and Construction was a true pleasure to work with. From the very start communication was great, my messages were returned timely, my appointments were set timely to my schedule and Tony came out to see what needed to be done. Tony was professional and knowledgeable, listened to what I needed (roof repair) and didn't try to upsell or get me to do work I didn't need like a new roof. Robert, the roofer was truly a pleasure, very friendly, and knowledgeable and when he says he works fast, he is right about that. I am already preparing a list of other jobs I want done, and Duarte will very likely be the company getting those jobs. I have already referred them to friends. Great company!

Ramos & Son Contruction Co has done alot of projects for me over the years. I live in a Tri Level home in Covina Ca and Juan Ramos has Remodeled my 2 bathrooms, Kitchen area, Outside waterfall pond, electrical work, reinsulated the upstairs walls in all bedrooms, plumbing work, recessed lighting, repositioned a major support post in my Garage area for more room in the laundry room, installed Crown molding around the interior of my home, and painting. I have a touching story of Juan Ramos, In the summer of 2016 as Juan Ramos was reconstructing my exterior waterfall pond area, my 4 year granddaughter was placed in foster care, so I had applied for my granddaughter to get placed with me, there was alot of things that I had to do to get my home ready for inspection by the dept of Children Services for the home to be approved for my granddaughter to be placed with me. Inspection day came and everything was looking good until the social worker inspected the fireplace, the social worker indicated that she could past the. Inspection because the fireplace did not pass because the fireplace had a steel mesh protector in the front and that it needed a more stable protector, my heart just dropped because my granddaughter was still in foster care with people she did not know. So, immediately I thought of Juan Ramos that was outside rebuilding my pond as the social worker was there doing the inspection. I immediately went outside to ask Juan Ramos if he could temporarily construct a temporary barrier in front of fireplace so the inspection could pass. The social worker said that would be good and ask me to send a picture of the temporary barrier once its installed since she had to leave for her another assignment. Juan Ramos immediately went to Home depot to get the materials needed to construct barrier as I had to report back to work, Juan Ramos completed the temporary barrier within a couple of hours and then he sent me the picture of barrier so I could send to the Social worker, the Social worker was impressed and approved home for my granddaughters placement with me. My granddaughter now has a safe home, and I have adopted her and she now goes to a Christian school in Covina Ca. I give alot of thanks to Juan Ramos for going out of his way and doing this for my granddaughter . Overall Juan Ramos does excellent and remarkable work, his work is very neat, clean, and very detailed at a great price, there was never no delay in all the projects that he has done at my home. Most importantly he's a man of honor, with a heart of gold. I have so much respect for Juan Ramos because of his honesty and caring nature. Best contractor I have ever met in my life.

About

I am a third generation contractor, and I have been around all aspects of repairs, improvements, remodels, and renovations. As far back as I could remember, I was on a job helping old dad. I learned the "old school" way of business where a man's word and hand shake was as good as anything. I am the type who likes to get the problem fixed and usually, I break it down into a language the homeowner can understand. I have numerous return customers because I take my time and care about the outcome of even the smallest of jobs. What benefits my clients is my thorough understanding of multiple trades, which always saves money or grief or both in most cases. Nevertheless, I'm a family man, and my clients are food in my kids' mouth. So, when I see that a client wants a bid on something that could vary widely in price, I tend to want to schedule an appointment, so I can give the most accurate and fair price. This also gives the homeowner an opportunity to pick my brain for knowledge, which I like to share. I am a c-10 contractor for electrical work. I am a certified state general electrician, certified structural steel welder and A UTI graduate, so information and knowledge amazes me from every aspect.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
