We make math easy, and we offer a money-back guarantee -- see an improvement in understanding in the first session or get your money back!

About

People often talk about outstanding teachers: those special educators who made them approach an academic discipline in a different way, develop a passion for a subject, or discover hidden aptitudes. Jason has that quality, there is no doubt about it. But his holistic style is much more than simply inspiring academic tutoring or language teaching. There is an overarching nurturing aspect, based on a gentle but persuasive attention to personal development and improvement. This underpins the effectiveness and quality of his teaching, making Jason an "outstanding" teacher in every way.

Do you need help with math, physics, or SATs? I'm a UC Berkeley Physics Ph.d student, and I have a master's degree in Theoretical Physics and a B.A. in math (both from Berkeley. My teaching experience is extensive. As a graduate student instructor from 2004-2008, I taught introductory and advanced courses in physics to UC Berkeley students of all levels, ranging from basic mechanics to special and general relativity. As an official physics dept. tutor, I worked with students individually in math/physics subjects, ranging from Advanced Calculus to Quantum Mechanics. Since 2007, I've worked specifically with middle school and high school students in the SF Bay Area to prepare them for AP exams , SAT I and 2, and coursework in general. I've also worked as a SAT tutor for Catalyst, a leading test prep company in California.

About

Welcome! My name is David Freeling, and I run a one-man tutoring business centrally located at the heart of San Francisco, in 1304 Castro, on the vibrant commercial strip of Noe Valley. Please call me at any time to set up an appointment. Since 1997, I have been helping students achieve their academic goals and improve their fundamental math and English skills. I work with kids and adults of all ages, teaching all lessons personally. My students find me patient and gifted at explaining difficult concepts from multiple perspectives. Tutor and Author: When you or your children work with me, you know you are being taught by someone who has not only mastered the material, but in many cases, has also written it. I have coauthored two guidebooks to the Graduate Records Exam, or GRE, published by the prestigious publishing house, Barron's (available on Amazon -- keyword David Freeling). My newest book, VocabMonster, teaches 300 of the most frequent SAT words using funny, full-color cartoons and creative mnemonic devices. Preview the material for free and begin laughing while you learn by visiting the VocabMonster page. I have always believed in making education fun and engaging. My self-published classic, The First Fun SAT Book, teaches the most important strategies for the test using concise, easy-to-remember lessons. Areas of Focus I specialize in the following areas: * Test prep for most standardized exams including the HSPT, SSAT, ISEE, COOP, PSAT, PLAN, SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT. * Schoolwork and homework help: Many of my clients are elementary, middle, and high school children who meet me once per week to improve their grades and keep up with their classes. * Math: all levels, including basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, precal, calculus, and statistics * English: reading comprehension, vocabulary development, grammar, essay writing, writing and editing skills as well as college personal statements Begin Learning Now Visit my website to enter my free video library. Watch me in action, teaching important math test-prep strategies suitable to a wide range of exams. Video testimonials from students are included in two of the videos. Contact me personally to set up an appointment. Rates My usual rate is $75 per full-hour lesson for one-on-one tutoring in all subjects. There are two ways to save: 1) Students may request a sliding-scale, financial-aid discount rate of $65 or $70 per hour; 2) Students who share a tutorial pay the reduced rates of $45 per student for two-on-one tutoring, or $35 each for three-on-one sessions. In order to maintain these affordable rates for all, I must ask clients to cover the fee for all appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance. Background and Experience I graduated from Columbia University in 1991 with a BA in mathematics and completed a year of graduate school in the Columbia University Mathematics Department in 1992. Before starting my own tutoring business, I was trained and employed by two companies for two years: The Math Set and Advantage Testing, both of Atlanta, GA. In 2004, I founded the business, Insight Tutoring of San Francisco, which I have directed until the present. I have worked with hundreds of students from public and private schools across the Bay Area, including Lowell, SOTA, Lick-Wilmerding, UC Berkeley, the San Francisco School, University High School, Saint Ignatius, and many others. For a combined 10 years, I conducted on-site, comprehensive SAT prep classes at the International High School (FAIS/IHS) and Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. Parent and Volunteer I am the proud parent of three children myself and am happy to give back to the community by volunteering as a classroom tutor about two hours per week in their elementary school. Word on the Street I often overhear my students saying this: "I learned more in one hour with David than in one week of math at school."

About

MyGuru provides one-on-one academic and test prep tutoring for high school, college and post-college/professional clients. Because we don't have physical locations, you meet tutors at your chosen time/place; thus, you save overhead. Our tutors cost half as much as the other premier tutoring companies. The MyGuru difference: Our average tutor has a graduate degree from a prestigious university in his chosen field and at least three years of tutoring experience. Our tutor recruiting is our most important differentiator. Our tutors are more experienced, accomplished and effective, and our prices make us significantly more affordable than many other comparable companies. We offer GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, SAT/ACT, CFA and other test prep tutoring as well as high-school and college academic tutoring (for most classes, such as foreign languages, chemistry, calculus, physics, etc.). Because we don't try to force fit students into a specific teaching methodology or test prep class, our students' results are significant. Expect the best; we'll help you obtain it.
