Introduction: My name is Jackson Metivier and I am a Math major currently enrolled at University of California Irvine. I am also enrolled in the Data Analytics Bootcamp through the continued education division of UCI and will be completing that program in November of 2019.
As for my career, for the past 3 years I’ve worked as a Math tutor for various education companies and as an independent contractor, companies such as: Tutor Doctors, Mathnasium, and the Irvine Valley College Math Center. Through my experience at these companies, I’ve been able to perfect many of my own skills in Mathematics as well as my skills in teaching Mathematics. At the Irvine Valley College math center, I was responsible for teaching higher levels of mathematics such as: Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. At Mathnasium, where I am currently employed, I’m responsible for teaching much more developmental subjects in mathematics such as adding and subtracting.
Apart from teaching math, through my many years of being a working professional and a full-time student I’ve developed the very important skill of time management. During the busier times of my schooling and working life, I’ve had to schedule private tutoring clients, my hours working at Mathnasium or the IVC math center, time for me to study, as well as time for the gym as I go no less than 5 days of the week. These busy times and running my own private tutoring business have given me excellent skills in multitasking, using my time efficiently, over the phone professionalism when scheduling private tutoring clients, and time management. Additionally, my experience in tutoring has required that I be able to learn new things very quickly. As one would imagine, teaching math at a wide range of levels can lead to some challenging questions, questions I may not be well equipped to answer, so often times I will have to learn a new topic or method on the fly and well enough to explain it concisely to whomever I am teaching at the time. I’m confident in my abilities to be thrown into an unfamiliar situation and quickly understand what is necessary for me to succeed, given the proper direction.
A little more about me: I am an avid bodybuilder and spend what little time I have outside of school and work at the gym sculpting my physique. This is what I would consider my main hobby, but when I have more free time I love going to the beach, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, going on camping trips or anything that involves the outdoors. I’m also a car enthusiast, so I modify and work on my own cars as much as I can, I’ve gone so far as to completely remove and replace the engine and transmission of my main project car.
