Introduction: I have taught AP Chemistry for 14 years, and my open door policy after school hours has given me incredible experience helping students get a robust understanding of the most difficult content in chemistry. Chemistry is an awesome, fascinating subject and my enthusiasm for the subject is something I've been able to pass on to my students at school and my tutoring clients outside of my school. I've developed an ability to see where students are not making connections and finding ways to help them develop a deep understanding. I live near Pasadena California, so doing in-person tutoring would only work for students who are in the Pasadena area. However, I have had a lot of success with tutoring over Zoom.

Mr. James was my high school teacher for both pre-AP and AP chemistry. His class was my favorite. He had interesting lectures and labs, and he excelled at breaking down the material and presenting it in a way where the class could follow him, especially when the content grew more advanced. He truly cared about the success and performance of each and every one of his students, and always made himself available to those who needed extra help during the lunch period and after school to go over extra practice problems in order to understand the concepts better. His class inspired me to pursue an education and career in the STEM field, and it also made chemistry one of my favorite subjects!

Mr. James was one of my favorite high school teachers hands down. I had him for both Pre-AP and AP Chemistry and I learned so much while still having fun! Chemistry is a difficult subject but he made it enjoyable and interesting with a variety of demonstrations and experiments. Those classes held some of the fondest of my high school memories. When I entered college I even referred back to my high school notes for guidance in my General Chemistry courses. I aced my titration labs because of my previous experience doing them in his classes. His teachings really solidified my roots as a STEM major and I don't think I would have done so well if it weren't for him. I truly admire the dedication and time he puts into making sure his students are learning efficiently. He was always available after school for help. I was a very shy student especially when it came to asking for help, but I was never afraid to ask him. He is very kind and patient when it comes to answering questions and I truly appreciated it. Overall I would highly recommend him as a tutor!

Mr. James was a phenomenal teacher. He broke down concepts and made them approachable and easy to understand. He also found ways to make the work engaging and interesting- which in turn made me more motivated to work hard. After having him as a teacher, both semesters of college chemistry felt like a review and I was able to excel. Truly feel that he helped prepare me for college, and set me on a career path in the STEM field. Forever grateful for what I learned from Mr. James :)

I hired Carter to help me with my Chem 111A class. I was struggling with a few concepts and unfortunately my professor wasn't much help. Carter has a very easy way about him. He has been able to explain things in a way that makes sense to my brain! I think my professor talked "over my head" a lot of the time. Carter has been able to explain the concepts in a simpler way for me to understand.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $50 an hour even though I have much more experience than most people.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We can get started with an online session. I use Zoom. We can talk for 20 minutes and I can answer a few chemistry questions so you have confidence in how I can help you. I won't charge you for this first 20 minute session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors Degree from UCLA in Engineering. After working as an engineer for several years I decided to teach high school chemistry and physics and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I have taught chemistry and physics and helped many students in class and after school.
