My dog is 13+ years old with some sensitive hips and no longer is able to jump in the car to go get a bath. I called Michelle and she explained that she had a mobile trailer with easy ramps for her. When she came, she listened to my concerns about her hips and she took good care of her. My dog was a happy dog. I really liked how she was very gentle with my dog. I would recommend Simply Devine.

Great experience with Rebel Dog Grooming! Ace was wonderful with my dog. He was even knowledgeable enough to notice excessive ear wax and suggested I see a vet. Good thing I did because my dog did have an ear infection. Service was easy, convenient and my dog is so fresh and clean. I will definitely use Rebel from now on.

We needed help with our 4 month old English bulldog. She came in the same day we made contact and gave us great tips and pointers from food, vets, and training. She was really patient, kind and professional. She knew what she was talking about and is perfect if you are looking for a local dog trainer. Thus far we have met just once but I highly recommend her and we plan on having her back to our home for additional training.

Shannon is so amazing with our dogs! I can't say enough good things about her and Doggie Bliss! When we were away on vacation, my sweet Frenchie needed to be taken to the Vet. No problem at all from Shannon and her team. They took very good care of her. Me and my pups will be life long Doggie Blisser's:)

Kevin is truly amazing - my dog is transformed! I was really impressed after the evaluation meeting, in which I learned more than I could have imagined. I worked with my dog over the next week, and I could see a definite improvement (after months of very little improvement). We got the family dog plan, and had our little dog board with Kevin for training during the day for a little over a week. He is a rescue and had some difficulties with aggression towards other dogs and strangers. By the end of the week, he was able to interact with other dogs - even big, male dogs! He was also more playful. Kevin's approach is holistic, and he will also work with our dog at our house to help generalize the good behavior. I feel so lucky to have had such a great experience, and I look forward to working with Kevin further.

Lola is 11 years old and has never been bathed before. She doesn't like water so I wasn't sure how this would work out. According to Emily she did fine. It was a little iffy on the teeth brushing. I've always had the vet do it and she puts her under but it all worked well. Emily is very caring and conscientious, and did a great job. I scheduled Lola for another bath in 6 weeks.

Miki is a great, trustworthy, and reliable pet sitter and walker. She handles my large 3 dogs and cat with ease and has been their "nanny" many times over the years. From walking, overnights to even vet visits, she ensures my dogs and cat are well taken care of. Highly recommend her services, and make sure you ask her for her famous pet treats too, baked from her home!

My name is Broadway. I am a 2 year-old Bichon Frise. Here are my Top Ten Perspectives on the Characteristics of the Perfect Pet Sitter—my Mary Ann. My Mary Ann: 1. Truly loves me; I love her 2. Knows how to communicate with me, from gentle conversation to occasional discipline (darn!) 3. Makes me feel excited about being with her; it’s like being on a mini-vacation all my own 4. Eliminates my separation anxiety with the love and attention she dispenses 5. Treats me as if I were her own—giving me special care and handling, and let’s me watch TV with her and cuddle 6. Is reliable: shows up on time, even a few minutes early, and is an excellent communicator with my "mom" . . . keeping her informed, if requested 7. Can think on her feet and assess what to do in an emergency—first aid, trip to vet—although I have not had to call on that skill 8. Offers special services, like the time she picked me up from doggy day camp 9. Takes me for walks to both familiar and new places, and I get to ride in her car 10. Is fun to be with, and my mom and I think of her as part of our family That’s my Mary Ann. She is the B-E-S-T!!!

really can't say enough about linda and all of the staff at canine companions. provided temporary boarding for my sister's 2 senior pit mixes when she died suddenly. for 9 months they were housed and fed and walked and taken for vet visits and even nursed while seriously ill. and all of this was done with warmth, love and understanding. she sent pictures and made time for constant visits that were actually tear filled therapy sessions. my sister's dogs eventually came home to live forever with my husband and me. without time to grieve and prepare, knowing they were safe and loved, we could not have reached the point where we are now: a loving family of four; all seniors(lol) and all mad ly in love. a million thanks, a million dollars wouldn't be enough. there is/are none better than linda and her girls/women. call them. try them. my word you won't be sorry....robin and gene albertelli+ruby and lincoln

Cascille Courtney has pet-sat for us on a few occasions and everytime upon our return, our precious dog has been happier than when we left. She was clean and energetic and I can only thank Cascille for the love and care she shows to our animals. She sent us photos and went the extra mile by taking our dog to the vet for her bath which was cancelled and Cascille bathed her for us. I trust my home and animals to Cascille's loving hands when we leave.

Kat is a true animal lover which makes her truly qualified to care for your pets. She is quite knowledgeable about common disorders too, not that she claims to be a vet, but its good to have an expert lead you to the right vet or treatment. I would always trust my dogs to her loving care.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
