I can't say enough good things about our cleaners! I found Daniela Rios company recommended by a friend and have been incredibly happy. The crew (usually 2 women) is in and out quickly which is important with two young children. She also works around changing nap times and days when the kids are sick. Her team does all of the little things (cleaning inside the toaster, vacuuming underneath each couch cushion, moving furniture to clean underneath, etc.) that make her company stand out from others I have used in the past.

We needed a house cleaning service for my elderly mother-in-law's house. It was a big job so we requested a deep cleaning. Stephani and Thiago were wonderful. They showed up right on time, bringing all of their supplies including a vacuum cleaner along with them. I told them that my priorities were the kitchen and bathroom, including cleaning the inside of the refrigerator. They worked hard and did an outstanding job. The house hasn't been this clean in many years. We will definitely use them the next time and we would highly recommend them to anyone who wants great service at a reasonable rate.

I was so happy with the cleaning that Zemka and her daughter did. We hired them to clean our 3bdr home when we moved out. Zemka responded quickly and it was easy to arrange a time for her to come. She arrived on time and was very professional and efficient. The place was cleaned to an outstanding standard. I would definitely hire Zemka again.

Had a good price, so I decided to give him a try. He was responsive leading up to the agreed upon appointment, showed up on time, and was thorough in cleaning our carpets. You could tell he worked hard for the time he was here, and the carpets turned out looking great. Not all of the stains were fully removed, but the ones that remained were greatly reduced in size (and that's a win given how long they had been there). I would definitely hire him again. Very friendly, honest guy.

We had just one cleaning with Lidia so far, but it's been amazing and we'll have her come by every two weeks from now. Her son came by with two helpers. All of them were extremely professional and nice, the apartment was extremely clean afterwards. We're pretty happy!

We live in Anchorage, Alaska and bought a condo in San Francisco and needed a Move-In house cleaning Service. I scheduled service with the company and we were really pleased and satisfied with John’s professional cleaning service. John is also very accommodating with scheduling as I had to reschedule our appointment for several times due to unexpected condo closing date change. We will use his service again for our house cleaning needs in the future. Jean and Samson Anchorage, AK

This was my first time hiring Ana's house cleaning service... And I will absolutely hire them again! Emily Lucy and Viviana are a detail-oriented crew who have a happy camaraderie with each other... even vying to see who will get to clean the kitchen and the bathrooms. I asked them to clean the inside of a garden window in the kitchen. Next thing I know Lucy is up on the counter cleaning the inside of the window and Emily is outside cleaning the exterior - I hadn't even asked for them to clean the outside. I highly recommend their services.

Lupita and her team far exceeded my expectations! I had no idea what deep cleaning was until Lupita and her team came to my house. They not only cleaned my house, but also cleaned the baseboards, doors (both sides), sliding glass track, window sills and inside the window track and ceiling fans! They were amazing. My house not only smells clean (not talking about an airwick smell), but clean! I've already booked her for next month!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

How much does upholstery cleaning cost?

The cost to have your upholstered furniture cleaned depends mostly on two factors: the size of the furniture and the type of fabric. The national average cost of upholstery cleaning ranges from $120 to $150. Most people have multiple pieces cleaned at once, but sofa cleaners will come to your home for just one heavily soiled couch or to spot-treat stains. The smaller the furniture, the lower the cost: A lounge chair may cost an average of $50 to clean, while a couch costs an average of $135 and an L-shaped sectional costs an average of $190. Delicate materials such as antique fabrics or suede upholstery are more expensive to clean than sturdier ones. Having the sofa cleaner do repairs will also add to the cost. Repairs such as mending a tear in fabric or patching a hole in leather may be charged by the task or by the hour; in general, repairs cost an average of $15 each. Special or delicate fabrics may cost additional fees, too.

Who cleans couches?

Even if your furniture doesn’t appear dirty or stained, your couches are collecting just as much dust, pollen, germs, pet hair and dander, and even food crumbs as your carpets. In general, the same professionals who clean your carpets and drapes can also clean your couches. Carpet cleaners usually offer upholstery cleaning services as well, and may offer a discount if you have your carpets cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of professional upholstery cleaners in your area who specialize in cleaning different types of upholstery fabrics, including delicate antique fabrics and other hard-to-clean materials such as suede. In addition to deep-cleaning the entire piece of furniture, sofa cleaners can spot-treat food, pet, and oil and grease stains. Most professionals also offer services to sanitize and deodorize your furniture and apply protectants to prevent future stains. As with carpets, experts recommend that you have your upholstered furniture cleaned once every year or two, depending on how much use it gets and whether you have children and pets.
