Renee Z. says, "I can honestly say that my teacher is absolutely amazing — the best teacher I could ever imagine. She has taught me for two years, and during this time, she has treated me like a second son, caring about my growth, my confidence, and even my happiness. Every lesson is not only educational but also fun and inspiring. She even gives me little treats each time, which makes learning feel like a joy rather than a chore! Her writing skills are exceptional — she teaches me how to organize my thoughts, express myself clearly, and improve my writing step by step. At the same time, her reading instruction is phenomenal. She helps me understand complex texts, think critically, and enjoy reading more than I ever have before. Every lesson, I leave feeling like I’ve learned something new and important. Every time I see her, she would always brighten my day with a colossal smile! She is incredibly professional, patient, and dedicated, but also warm, kind, and encouraging. She pushes me to do my best while making me feel supported every step of the way. I honestly can’t imagine having a better teacher — she’s the kind of teacher I would choose again even in 1,000,000 years. If you want a teacher who will truly invest in you, improve your skills in reading and writing, inspire you, and even make you excited to learn every day, she is absolutely the one. I cannot recommend her highly enough — she has changed the way I see learning, and I know she can do the same for anyone else lucky enough to study with her! I have genuinely no words to describe how great of a teacher she is."See more

Reading and Writing Tutoring, ESL (English as a Second Language) Lessons

My first student was my severely dyslexic sister who was in 8th grade reading at 1st grade level. For years teachers told me she needed to read more and she was eventually catch up. Nothing worked until I found the Orton-Gillingham method. Not only is she able to read now but she is addicted to a series of novels! I am trained and certified in the Barton System which one of the most comprehensive Orton-Gillingham based programs. The Orton-Gillingham method is the golden standard in teaching reading to children and adults with dyslexia. I have taken Lindamood-Bell's Lips training workshop on phonemic awareness for my most severely dyslexic students. I have also taken Susan Barton's 6-day graduate level Screening for Dyslexia seminar. In addition to my O.G.-based training, I have taken countless Linguistics and Structured Word Inquiry courses to expose my students to a scientific approach to orthography. Every word has a story and meaningful reasons for the way it is spelled, even so-called "sight words!" Using SWI, students use critical thinking, expand their vocabulary, and improve reading comprehension. Signs of Dyslexia: - Terrible spelling (Number 1 sign of Dyslexia) - Unable to sound out unknown words or nonsense words - Unable to retain spelling words from spelling tests - Slow choppy reading - Relies on context clues when reading - Makes guesses when reading I tutor all students (ages 6 to adult) online using a screen sharing software. My hourly rate applies to 55-minute sessions. I look forward to hearing from you!See more
