When I first reached out to Smart Homes, I received a phone call from Josh in a span of a couple of hours. He was friendly, upbeat and easy to talk to; all signs you want to see when establishing contact with a general contractor company. The following day, I met one of his colleagues, Gal, who happened to stop by my property to go over some of the projects I was interested in pursuing. Gal was exceptionally professional but also very personable. He talked at length about his process and shared advice on how to approach the renovations. The conversation felt smooth, easy and most importantly, collaborative. Obviously, as a layperson, I have no clue on how renovations/construction works. I just have an idea on what I want the final product to look like. That said, Gal does a great job of bridging his expertise and experience with what you want without condescending to you; a story that I have heard all too often from other friends with their contractors. I was quite impressed at the length of time he spent with me. He showed me photos from several projects from several stages to help me conceptualize how my project would unfold. Not once did our meeting ever feel rushed nor did I get the feeling that he was too busy to answer my questions. What really struck me the most was the fact that he was very upfront about how communication and respect was very important to him; that it’s incumbent for both parties (homeowner and contractor) to be able to work with one another in a professional manner. Gal made it clear that it doesn’t matter how much money is being offered to him to do a project. If you’re the type of person who is going to micromanage and create an environment that makes it difficult for him and his crew to do their job effectively, it’s not worth it to him. The point being, Gal made it clear that Smart Homes is based off of building relationships and selectively choosing projects that are a good fit for his team and of course, the homeowner. He’s not going to take a project for the sake of taking a project because of the money. I respect that as it is a core trait I look for in a contractor. My wife and I ended up moving in a different direction with our interior renovation. However, we’ve got an ADU project lined up in the near future. Given this company’s experience and expertise with ADU construction, we absolutely intend on reaching out to Smart Homes to potentially help us build this unit! Thanks Josh and Gal for a positive experience. I am sorry that we were unable to work together on this particular project but I am hopeful that perhaps we can collaborate on the bigger ADU project.May 11, 2020Verified

We appreciate your time and business Bobby, looking forward to hearing from you in the future as well.
This is a review for the consult; Gal was honest, genuine and softspoken and not pressure/salesman-y. Still deciding on the project scope of work or project, but the items discussed regarding my kitchen remodel was very helpful and gave me some ideas. Thanks Smart Homes!Feb 9, 2020VerifiedSmart Homes Inc.'s reply
Reading this makes us extremely happy Esther. Glad to have been able to serve you. Thank you!
They meet with me then while I was waiting on the bid after a week. I emailed them to see why I haven’t Received the bid yet to get a email back saying “I’m sorry we aren’t taking anymore projects” so they left me hanging for 2 weeks after wasting my time and making me take time off work to meet them and show them our project. What a joke of a company.Aug 9, 2020Verified
Our experience with Smart Homes was positive. From the initial meeting for an estimate through day 1 logistics and last minute details to get the job done on time. Some of the highlights of the project: Smart Homes offered a very competitive bid, honored it and at no point were there hidden costs or any surprises. We’ve done remodel projects in the past and this was the first time the quoted price is what we paid. The end date was guaranteed. Obviously things out of everyone’s control (like the toilet arriving broken) can affect the schedule, but even so Smart Homes was done with the work and inspections by the quoted end date. And, they even came back the following week when the back-ordered LED mirror arrived to make sure it was installed correctly. Smart Homes assisted with some of the decisions on materials when we had to make last second changes due to discontinued materials. They recommended locations to find what we wanted and made sure the entire project came together and looked like we expected. The team in our house was professional and respectful to the rest of the house, making sure the mess was confined to the bathroom. While onsite they communicated and asked questions when a decision point was reached. They never ‘guessed’ at what we would want, making sure we got what we expected. My only critical feedback would be on the overall communication from the project manager. It was minor and never affected the actual work, but I felt I needed to stay on top of the communication because the front office and the build team weren’t on the same page. Again, it didn’t affect getting the work done as we were available onsite in the morning and evening to answer any questions. We would definitely recommend Smart Homes to our friends. We are planning to remodel another bathroom with them in the coming months.Nov 19, 2019VerifiedSmart Homes Inc.'s reply
