How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was actually going to school to be a Physician Assistant at SDSU. At the same time I was working as a trainer at Bally's Total fitness. In that time at Bally's I saw the changes I made in people and how I helped them prevent from going to the hospital and staying off medicine. I would say I trained about 100 people before I made the decision to continue in the field and help people with preventative hospitalization and medicine. I am still highly involved in the medical community but my line of job now helps me train doctors and nurses and every other type of person out there. They all see the work I do and the change in their life. To me that is more rewarding. Also I love my job I am happy and being a trainer helps me provide for my family!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Weight loss and toning are the most common jobs I get.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently trained a couple. He lost 10lbs in 10 days and the girl lost 5 pound in 10 days!!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Attention customer....do not just go to any boot camp class or any personal trainer because they are dime a dozen. Their are only a handful in San diego that really know what they are doing. To find out, you need to look at their portfolio. Ask for before and after pictures or ask to talk to a former client. This way you won't waste money or time. Go to a trainer that knows the field, knows exercise and nutrition, and also make sure you mesh with his/her training technique and style. You don't want to spend money but the whole time you are bumping heads. Find a trainer with years of experience not just one with a six pack. Find a trainer that focuses on your goals not a trainer that wants to look into the mirror all the time. Just be smart with your choice so you can get your results the first time around and not jump from trainer to trainer. Once you find the right trainer give him/her at least 3 months to see some major results and you must train at least 3x a week. Remember this is a lifestyle change not magic. Stay focused and show up every time! That is the key!!
