Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I teach guitar and theory. I am self taught, and then schooled, so my approach fits a lot of aspiring guitarists who have struggled to learn the secrets. I play live quite often. I don't believe in "those who can't do, teach". If somebody can't do it, you don't want to learn from them. You only want to learn from competent players in the industry. Music and teaching are both forms of communication. A good teacher has to master both. I have authored five instructional books, which you can see at my website. And I have three CDs out which are all in the jazz-rock fusion vein. I'm currently working on two new books and a new CD. I was once a co-owner of a guitar school in Sacramento called "The Guitar Activity Center", where I learned most of my group teaching skills. Aside from my private instruction, I do a lot of clinics, workshops and teaching events. I currently do all my private teaching at Northridge Music, on Greenback near Sunrise.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I teach guitar, music theory, and bass. I also have some instruction books I've written. So if we don't hook up for lessons because of distance or whatever, there may be a book with dvd that will do the trick. My other gig is, I record people in my studio. So if you are a songwriter or have a band, you should check out my studio.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you're a beginner and somebody starts you in a book that only moves as fast as you are able to read notation, I think this is a faulty approach. You want to get playing, lots of strumming and picking. Reading is important, but most guitar dropouts have stories of how tedious it was trying to read at the same time as learning to play.
