When interviewing contractors be sure to ask about licensing. Anyone performing home services costing more than $500 MUST be a licensed contractor. A licensed contractor has passed technical and legal exams and is bonded. Liability insurance is optional, so ask about this also. NEVER agree to an initial payment to any contractor of more than is legal (10% of the price of the job or $1,000 whichever is LESS). At Finishing Rooms we do not ask for any deposit at all.
