Arisel is extremely professional and friendly. He responds quickly to inquiries, and showed up with the right tools for the job. I had an unconventional request - trimming down some tree stumps, but he patiently waited while I made measurements and markings, and then went to work with the chainsaw. Highly recommended.

Did a very good and thorough job. He cut some tree branches that were touching the roof without asking. He spent time afterwards to make sure everything was cleaned up. He asked for a fee that was on the bottom end of what he quoted given competitive quotes. After seeing the amount of work he did, his extra work, and his customer service, I paid him the higher amount of his original quote. Would definitely hire him again.

Great one-time yardwork experience — they were thorough, and went the extra mile, e.g. pointing out a tree in my yard that had died, and offering to remove it (at a very fair fee). I'm continuing to use their yardwork service, and have been very satisfied thus far.

Sean worked very hard to help us cut down three old sick maple trees in three days. His price was the best among 5 bids. He underestimated the cost to dump away the trash, but he did not ask for extra fee. When he cut the tree down , one big piece of trunk fell and accidentally damaged the tv cable panel on sidewalk. Sean promised that he will be responsible for the repair cost if camcast will not pay for it. We felt we can trust Sean and we will hire Sean again. If you need stump grinding you need to find someone else because Sean does not grind stump.

Dave contacted me right away. Told me he would beat any other quote which he did. Dave and his team showed up on time and finished 2 hrs earlier than expected. Did a great job taking out our walnut tree and being very careful of the surroundings. Even gave us the option of keeping any of the wood from the tree. They cut and stacked and cleaned up and ground our stump. Looks awesome would hire him for any other work that we need in the future. Thank you DLB Tree Service. Michael

We recently purchased a home and the previous owners had deferred maintenance on much of the landscaping. Miguel was very responsive. He and his sons did an outstanding job trimming trees and hedges, shaping bushes, and pulling weeds. We look forward to working with him again in the future.

This was a small job, terminating a special roof mounted-fan. I gave Rafael my requirements for a switch and a thermostat cut-off, and after some discussion about the difficulties of running in-wall wiring behind the wooden panel wall, suggested a way to the wires which was code compliant and far less obtrusive after painting than I first feared. He shopped around at several supply stores to find just the right parts for the project. He and his assistant did a great job as you can see from the pictures! He was also very prompt.

Marin is a pro! I had not felt comfortable going into my backyard due to overgrown weeds and stray cats that took over. He took down my garden beds, got out all the weeds, tree stumps and layed down tarp and mulch. He was very thorough with his work and I could tell that he has a passion for what he does.

Ruben showed up when he said he would (a miracle - some others didn't). Very happy with the service, which was removing 4-5 large bunches of mistletoe from a tree in my front yard. The job was reasonably priced and completed quickly, including great cleanup.

Ramirez Landscaping was absolutely great! Jose responded within minutes of my request. He visited the next day to provide a quote. After we agreed on pricing, he returned the following day with his crew and completed the tree trimming in one day (despite it being the hottest day of the year). They completed everything I asked and more. Were polite, friendly, on-time, quick, and very clean. I highly recommend them for tree trimming and yard maintenance.

Working with Angel was fantastic. He was very prompt with his quote and setting up a time to look at my yard. He was able to set up a time less than a week later to get the work done, arrived on time, and charged what he said he would. The yard was a tough job, ivy vines climbing over the fence and winding through all the plants and across the ground, plants to be dug out, dead tree to remove, it was basically a disaster area and now look neat and clear. I highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
