Somehow reading a book with common-sense dog training tips did not give us confidence. Dee Cee shows you these methods & how they work--but it is up to you to do it over and over till you and your dog get it. Our dog did not have hard issues so were were looking for guidance more than a trainer that would come multiple times. Dee Cee showed us insider tips and all the details..demonstrating with our dog... to give us methods & confidence. She left 2 tools to use as we will continue to work with our dog. We wanted an hour private session in our home to target 3 simple issues and Dee Cee was just what we needed.

Kim and Lori were fantastic. Lori came out with Kim (the one who would be staying overnight) to meet my dogs. I was very impressed when they brought toys for them. Kim was great with my dogs as well as taking care of my house. I received daily texts and pictures of the dogs which relieved any anxiety I had about leaving the dogs. My vet is in Orange County but Lori recommended a vet close by which reassured me that if there happened to be an emergency everything would be handled. I also appreciate the fact that they are licensed and bonded, just another reassurance. I am very happy with the services Coco and Boo provided for my fur babies. Kim treated my dogs like they were her own. I could tell how much they liked her when she returned the house key once I got home. I will be using them again when I go out of town.

Just Four Paws watched my 7 year old cat for a few days when we went out of town. They did a great job! They came consistently at the same time everyday. Took pictures and wrote progress reports. We were very happy with them, and felt very comfortable with them caring for our cat while we were away. Lori was our cat sitters name, she went above and beyond.

We had Melinda babysit our 2 small dogs while we were in Europe earlier this year. She did a fantastic job. Her work quality, dedication to our pets and her daily text updates, made us feel very relaxed knowing our doggies would be loved and cared for. We were able to enjoy ourselves in Europe. We love Melinda so much and trust her completely that we have already booked her for June, 2019!! Highly recommend Melinda.

Susan is not just a loving care taker of my dog, Max and my cat, Sir Purrs A Lot, but I think she's actually an animal whisperer. She is my daily dog-walker and has also house/dog/cat sat for a week at a time on many occasions. I completely trust her and know that my animals are in great care when she is with them. I would recommend her highly.

We are so glad we picked Jenny as our dog pet sitter! She took care of our dog for 4 days while we were traveling. She was very attentive and kind with our boy and was always sending pictures and messages. Which helped us to see how he was doing. One thing that really amazed us is that our dog was trained in portuguese and Jenny learned somethings just so he could understand her better! Our dog was very happy under Jenny's care and that's the most important part for us. We sure recommend her services.

I love Robin! She does an amazing job with my pets. I have several dogs and cats (seniors and special needs animals) and I NEVER worry about them while I am away. Robin does a fantastic job taking care of everyone and my house while I'm gone. And as an added bonus she takes the most amazing pictures of your pets and sends daily updates! I would highly recommend Robin as a great pet sitter!

At close to the last minute over the Thanksgiving holidays, Ginny accepted the job to feed and care for my cat for two days at my home in Tustin. She followed up promptly and left me an email that all was going well. She fed my cat,, cleaned the litter box, and spent time in my home with my pet. My cat was very calm and seemed happy when I returned home and I feel 100% satisfied that Ginny did an excellent job. I will use her services another time.

Wendy did an amazing job with my dog Buddy. He had separation anxiety so bad we could not leave the house. We sent him for a board and train and Wendy's training gave him confidence -- his separation anxiety is gone! A lot of things I didn't even realize were bad behaviors have corrected themselves. A big part of the training involves continuing the work Wendy does when the dog is back at home. We've followed her instructions and could not be more pleased. It would reccomend Wendy without reservation!

Natalie has watched our two maltipoos a handful of times and is now the only dog sitter we use! We absolutely LOVE her and highly recommend her. She is so attentive and so kind and caring. She sends us pictures of our pups when we’re away and keeps us up to date on how they are doing. She has a dog of her own and I was nervous as one of our dogs is not very friendly with other dogs. However, Natalie made the transition smooth and has helped make sure my dog is comfortable and handles it perfectly. She is extremely flexible with when we drop the pups off and when we pick up, which is soo convenient. Overall she’s the best dog sitter we have had, and I’m so thankful we found her!!

This was our first time hiring a cat sitter so my husband & I could go out of town for 2 nights. Kayla did a great job of feeding them, cleaning out their litter boxes , and even playing with one of them. (The other cat is too shy so he hid most of the time, but he was well-cared for.) I left her a list of instructions which she conscientiously followed. I appreciated that she took the time to try to bond with them & make them feel comfortable. She also texted me with a couple of questions & gave me an update on how they were doing. So the next time we go on vacation we will hire her again knowing that our cats will be in good hands.

I love being able to pick from a variety of sitters and walkers to find one at my price point. Even on a budget, I'm generally able to find someone. They might be new to the platform, but I've never had any issues.

One week after we adopted our 1-year old mini-pinscher, my housemate had to go away on business for a week, and I still needed to go to my 9-5 job, so I was desperate to find a good pet-sitter to come by to walk Russo and spend a little bit of time with him each day. I met Linda through Thumbtack. She came over on Sunday to meet Russo and agreed to come by the next day through Friday to walk him and spend some time with him at our home. She was awesome!! I really like that she would send me a text while I was at work, letting me know how things went, which greatly put my mind at ease. We so appreciated the great service that we have continued to hire Linda to pet sit. She is very intuitive about determining what Russo needs to feel comfortable and sometimes stays a little longer with him, as needed. I really like and appreciate that she has Russo's best interests in mind and that she continues to communicate how the visit went. It might seem like a little thing, but to me that's huge!

I had used a trainer with limited success and was frustrated by the experience. I was referred to Bark to Basics by a colleague who experienced great results by working with Melissa at Bark to Basics. We had the same great outcome. She worked with us to help us better understand our dogs responses to us. We tried Bark to Basics rewards based approach and it worked. We learned so much about dog behavior and responses from Melissa. We as pet parents, required more training than our dog! Melissa also is a pet sitter which helped reinforce our training while we were away.

Sabina was awesome...promt on our first meeting and very thougtful asking things I forgot about. I was sent pictures of my pets doing what they do best, and looking happy and very well cared for. One of mine needed shots twice a day....I had no worries which was refreshing given some past experiences. I would highly recommend Sabina for taking care of your pets and respecting your home in the process. 🙂🙂

Christopher and Terri are great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a dog sitter. The best pet sitters are dog owners, dog people. Safely first. They have a nice yard, and better still is they they have dogs in house as well. Zippy had a great adventure and on 2nd and 3rd time, just joined the other dogs and seemed very happy when I dropped her off and picked her up. They are the only pet sitters I would use. Appreciated the texts and pictures they sent while I was out of town, so much better than previous experiences and stories I have heard! Reasonable cost and it seemed more like having a close relative or trusted friend in charge of my pet, especially since she is so spoiled. It was a good experience for both of us, stress free.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
