We have a very big, very friendly, very happy, very naughty golden doodle puppy. She is almost a year old. Although we have always had a dog, we were having a time training Georgie. Dan form Wagtime to the rescue! In just 3 lessons (training us) there has been a remarkable difference. We're very happy with our lessons and look forward to the next one.

Todd was fantastic! We found him on Thumbtack within weeks of getting our new puppy. We were having major troubles with potty training and Todd was kind and thoughtful in providing advice and proposing a good schedule for training. When our puppy hit ~17 weeks, he spent two weeks doing board and train with Todd. I would strongly recommend this to anyone dealing with a puppy (or a dog who needs training too). Todd has a great philosophy of working with the dog and not against him. He immediately had a solid understanding of our puppy, including really amazing insights into what was scaring/unsettling him. He sent frequent detailed emails and photos/videos telling us about the dog's progress and what he still needed to work on, and our sweet puppy emerged from Todd's place responding to some commands, walking reliably on a leash, able to interact with other dogs without freaking out, and much improved on biting and potty training, etc. He also finally responds to "no," so even his remaining bad habits will hopefully subside soon. Bottom line: when you leave your sweet puppy with a stranger for two weeks, trust is key, and we immediately felt comfortable with Todd. He and his wife treated our puppy like their own, and we will definitely be keeping him on speed-dial in the future!

I can't say enough abI can't say enough about K9 Training, Southern Ca, but more important trainers Gunner and Tom. They are passionate about dogs and helping canines learn. I handed over to them TWO 8 month old rambunctious Dobermans I fondly called "my hounds from hell" and received two totally disciplined, focused working dogs. Gunner not only went above and beyond with all the training but with his TLC and care when they weren't training. These dogs were totally devoted to Gunner but transferred that devotion and respect right back to me. They were able to perform all tasks ( too many to mention) the first day alone with me with that same respect. Throughout the two weeks I got several videos a day to keep me up to date with each achievement. This is worth every penny. Check out my girl, Liesel on you tube. Be as amazed as I was! It's the real deal. I'm so proud of them! Thanks Gunner and Tom! 😘❤️out K9 Training, Southern Ca, but more important trainers Gunner and Tom. They are passionate about dogs and helping canines learn. We are so happy with Terra! She is down to earth and explains things very well. It's amazing how much difference there is with our German shepherd and Border Collie mix. Not only has been training the dogs, she has been training the entire family. She is very patient and thorough. She also had great advice on the type of beds and leashes for the dogs. So far. All her advice has been wonderful! She even spent time with us talking about different food types. We couldn't have asked for a better trainer! I would highly recommend her to anyone having difficulty with their pooches!

We are still training with Miranda. Miranda's training greatly improved our dog being reactive to other dogs. Miranda employed a variety of training methods and training environments that kept our dog and us engaged. She encouraged us to write to her in between training sessions about success and difficulties and she always quickly responded with encouragement and suggestions. Miranda tailored her training to our dog's problems and to our dog's progress. I very much recommend Miranda and her company, Healing Paws to everyone !

WOW!! What a great experience. Presley (One Fine Canine) met and exceeded my expectations at every level. I've worked with several dog trainers in the past, and I have to say this by far was the most successful training that we've had. One thing that I really liked is that she listened to my concerns. Presley is extremely knowledgeable and was able to share that knowledge with me in a way that I could clearly understand. You can tell that Presley is very passionate about what she does and the animals and owners that she helps. Plus my dog (Tucker) loved her. I will definitely call Presley again if the need for additional training arises.

Pam continues to amaze me with how well she trains both people and dogs alike. I have had the opportunity to learn from Pam as one of her students and I continue to see the benefits our shelter dogs have as a direct result of Pam's teaching techniques. I have found Pam's teaching style to be friendly, patient and professional, leaving both students and dogs on a positive note and a sense of accomplishment. If you're looking for a dog trainer with a lot of experience training multiple students and dogs each day with positive results, I highly recommend, Pam Francis-Tuss.

My husband and I have worked with Joyce for almost a year now. Words cannot describe our fondness of her. She has and always will be more than a dog trainer. In addition to her exceptional dog training services, Joyce provided us with tips on proper dog nutrition. The first day we met Joyce, she asked to take a look at our dog's food. My husband and I were so impressed as she skimmed through the list of ingredients on the dog food bag, nodding her head yes and no. She is passionate about the well being of all dogs and is always researching and learning new things to pass on to her clients. She is peaceful (very soft spoken), reliable, and of course - SHE KNOWS DOGS!!! Not only has Joyce improved the quality of our dog's already wonderful life, but she has also left a mark on our hearts that will never be forgotten. Anyone would be lucky to have Joyce in their dog's life at some capacity, rather it be as a trainer, walker, consultant or plain old friend. Thank you Joyce! Ashly Patton Ashly Patton

Chris worked our Lab-mix, Zoe, to stop her habit of jumping on people. Chris is professional, observant, and patient. And, most importantly her training is based on kindness. She was able to assess both Zoe's and our particular needs and worked accordingly to help us. Throughout our session Chris took her time not only teaching Zoe, but also teaching us. And, Chris has given us further support through a follow-up e-mail checking on Zoe's progress. With Chris's help we are well on our way to success!

    About

I am not a professional, but am very good with dogs and interacting with them. Generally, I'm really good at communicating with them, and having them listen. Give me a chance to train the doggie, and I'm certain we will get the result that you want.

    About

Attending one of our training sessions will change you and your dogs life for ever in a positive way.

    About

Positive training methods have recently started coming out in the past 10 years. Not to say that the old militaristic way of doing things doesn't work, because it does, there's just a new less strict way that works just as well. Positive training is about teaching your dog what you would like them to be doing and making it a fun experience for them. There are consequences when needed but I like to focus more on rewarding the good behavior that is offered by your dog and teaching your dog that you like it when he does that so keep doing it!

    About

My name is Jennyfer. I have been living in this area on and off for 36 years. I have been taking care of animals all my life. I feel that a house is not whole without an animal in it. I have had many jobs taking care of other people's pets, and I see their pets as a member of my family when I'm taking care of them. I am a certified dog trainer and have a degree from Animal Behavior College. I have been training dogs professionally since 2006 but my parents say that I have been training dogs and animals since I was three. I took care of all the neighborhood animals when people were away and trained some of their dogs. I have experience with all types of animals, from horses to mice. I offer the following: * Dog training: group, private, daycare, or board and train * Pet sitting in your house * Boarding in my home * Dog walking

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

    • What type of training methods do you use?
    • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
    • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
