FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It's not complicated. For a regular weekday gig, I charge $150 for up to 4 hours and $25 for every 1/2 hour over that. Weekends are usually $200 for the same service. Private party prices can vary depending on the client but I generally charge $80 an hour for a house party and more for corporate gigs.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am in constant touch with other KJ's, some of which I've mentored. I read the karaoke blogs from around the country for information on equipment rotations, and other KJ's experiences. Life is an ongoing learning experience.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've always loved to sing but never did it professionally. In the 80's I discovered piano bars in San Francisco and loved the experience. After 30+ years in commercial printing, I was ready for a change and a friend was doing karaoke and took me under his wing. I started doing it in 2004 and within 6 months was doing 4 regular gigs a week and eventually was doing 6 a week (I currently am doing 4 which is perfect for me) I am still doing 2 of my original gigs 8 years later. I feel blessed to be doing something I love and being able to share it with others.
