FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Many students come because they want to conquer various challenges at the piano: how to get a beautiful sound, how to play arpeggios better, how to play more cleanly at fast tempi. Some want more general guidance on how to play more musically and gradually improve technical skills. Some want assistance on how to change their playing to eliminate hand/shoulder/back/neck pain.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would suggest trying to observe the teacher playing piano - do you like how s/he plays? Do you want your playing to sound like that? The teacher student relationship can be intense. Try to meet with a prospective teacher once with no commitment to see if you feel comfortable with their personality and communication style. Different learners have different learning modalities (visual, by 'feel', analytic, aural). Does the teacher communicate information in a way that is easy for you digest? Ask the teacher for contact information for current students - a good teacher should have LOTS of satisfied students that s/he would be happy for you to talk with. Finally, if possible, try to observe a performance or workshop where some of the teacher's students are playing. Do you like how they sound? Would you like to sound like that? Do they look like they are enjoying themselves?
