Wedding day makeup. Loved the at home experience. I was comfortable and since I had gone to the salon prior to the day of my wedding, there was nothing missing. Very pleasant experience.

Erica is very professional, has a hard work ethic, will come in early and stay late, and can cut circled around almost anyone I've ever been in the salon with! Hairstylists have to be chameleons I've realized and man, she can deal with anything you throw her way! I'm a stylist myself and having another stylist in the chair can be hard work but she always wows me! She's honest, hard working, a great listener, and not to mention the hair she does rocks! HAIR-A-PIST?! Everytime I leave Erica I feel beautiful on the inside too and there's no price I could pay to repay her for the kind words and encouragement she has put in my life. Not only as a co worker but now as a client! I would highly recommend getting your hair done with Erica! One of the hardest working stylists that has been in the industry for years!

The best Stylist for Japanese in San Francisco!! I have Asian hair with thick and a super volume hair almost cannot manage it my self. I have been living in S.F. for almost 10 yrs and went to many different Japanese hair salons (I only go to the Japanese hair salon because they are the best to me), but no one could ever cut my hair what I 100% like and I was always looking for a suitable hair stylist for my self. (I made an exemption) I finally met the person who cuts my hair perfect. Eduardo hair cut was blown me away seriously. He knows how to cut and how to bring out the best in me. It's like a wow magic cut believe me! I don't need to go to the hair salon as often that I used to anymore. My hair getting better and better as time passes. I get so many compliments on my hair since I have gone to this hair salon. Also Eduardo’s color, is amazing. I will definitely go to this salon while I live in S.F.

I had an amazing experience with Maritza. Originally, I booked her to do my Winter Ball look, and it went incredible. She knows how to give you the exact look you want, or recommend something you wouldn't have originally though of. Later, I booked her for my birthday where I got so many compliments on my makeup. She even helped with hair at the end that was turning flat after going to a professional salon. My hair and makeup looked stunning that night thanks to Maritza.

Pros: Relaxing and clean ambience with professionals who know what they are doing. Respectful and honest service in a very pleasant area. Cons: None so far. Every last Saturday of the month, I stop by Bisou lounge for my monthly mani/pedi appointment. I generally arrive around noonish so that I can guarantee a seat in her busy salon however, I occasionally have to wait a minute or two. The service at Bisou is always top notch. I generally get the "Choco-therapy" Manicure/Pedicure with a few add-ons such as callus care. Since I have been going there for the last 3 years, the team knows how my nails grow and since the products they use are all organic I feel at ease. I honestly wasn’t used to someone else touching my feet but they made me feel very relaxed and welcome and I haven’t stopped going there since. Even when I am late, they find ways to accommodate me if it doesn’t disrupt their hectic schedule. They accept, all credit cards, cash and even use square which I like very much. The area of service is very hygienic and the chairs are very comfortable. Overall, my experience at Bisou has been nothing but positive. I highly recommend the salon to other patrons and would be very surprised if anyone was ever unhappy with their second to none service and hospitality.

The beautiful girl you see on Phi's thumbtack is my cousin. Phi did an amazing job making my wedding party look like they came straight out of a photo shoot for a magazine. Every bridesmaid looked so beautiful! Their hair and makeup was flawless. As I was planning for my wedding, I took everyone's advice and booked a salon professional to do my hair. Everyone told me since I was the bride, I should spend the money and make sure I had a "professional" do my hair. I went ahead and booked my regular hair stylist. Since she did such a great job cutting my hair for the last two years, I figured she'd do an amazing job with my hair for my wedding. She was so pricey I didn't book a pre run since she was going to charge me full price for her time. Since we had a good client and stylist relationship I went ahead and trusted she would be able to give me what I wanted. Little did I know styling and cutting are two completely different things. She did an okay job with my hair but I have to admit, for the amount I paid, I wasn't completely satisfied. I could tell as she was styling my hair she didn't really know how to pin the curls and it didn't look anything like the picture I brought in. While I was getting my hair done, Phi was busy working on my girls at my sister's house. I didn't get to see their beautiful faces until later on that morning. When I saw them for the first time, I couldn't believe how amazing they looked. Each brides maid had her hair done and make up in a way that complimented their personalities and style. My maid on honor was done up a bit more elaborate than my bridesmaids. My bridesmaids generally did not wear a lot of make up so their make up was very natural and stunning at the same time. To add some commonalities to each bridesmaid, Phi added a floral piece to everyone's hair. Everyone was able to sport a different look but had a similar flower that tied them together. I loved it all! Phi and I are still very close and I've told her numerously, the one regret I have was not hiring her to be my stylist. She did such an amazing job and I love looking at her work on all her new clients. She's so easy to work with and delivers great work and service! Since my wedding she has grown as an artist and I am so grateful to have had an opportunity for her to be a part of my special day!

About

I’m doing something I’ve loved since I was a kid. I’ve always loved beauty, and have been giving people makeovers my whole life. I used to play with makeup (and had my own play makeup) when I was young, and really started experimenting with my own makeup since I was officially allowed to wear it in 6th grade. I’m lucky that my mom and my sister would always do her own makeup, and was my role model to be the artist I am today.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
