Tiffany was very professional and quick to answer my request. She addressed every need that my cat had and also did it in a very personable way, keeping me updated about how things were going, which is very important to me to have peace of mind when out of town knowing that someone new is taking care of your pet. Dani was Awesome! She welcomed my little round Beagle, Daisy, into her home and treated Daisy as if she was one of her own. I know my begging/howling little cutie can be a handful, but Dani was very patient. I look forward to bringing our furry family member back to Pawsitive Pet Care again in the near future. Thanks so much, Dani! Heidi Taylor

While away the person taking care of my dog went into the hospital. At wits end I call a friend who gave me Roseanne's number. I called and spoke to her as she was driving to pick up my dog and bring her back to my home where Roseanne ended up staying for three weeks! She called me everyday for updates and to let me know all was great with my puppy! I had not met her but when I arrived home I met an awesome Lady!!! TRUST is the first word that comes to mind! I didn't know Roseanne but she had my precious girl and the keys to my house! I returned to a very happy American bulldog who was in beautiful condition. Roseanne is in control of the situation and has compassion for the job she is doing . She does it well. She took beautiful care of my girl as well as my house. Roseanne is neat and tidy and kept my house and yard as if it was her own. I will highly recommend Ms. Roseanne Farinacci to anyone that needs pet care or even just home care. As a person Roseanne is trust worthy, respectful, kind, caring, loving and most of all Happy. If anything that's the best part because the your pet will be Happy.

I left my cat Penny with Emilia for about 7 hours, I felt at ease leaving her there for the day. Plenty of room to roam the house or just hang out in the area that was set up with toys, a sleeping area and food. If I ever need cat care again I will be going to see Emilia! I recommend her to anyone looking for pet care!Thank you!

I think Kelly is the perfect choice for Missy! I think she's the perfect choice to train me! She commands respect from the dog and to my surprise, it actually worked on Missy, from the moment Kelly walked through the door. She has a calm and very effective manor. Somehow Missy knew who was in charge I feel lucky to have found her. Another plus, she comes to where the dog lives which I think is fantastic. Kelly is really a nice person and I like her a lot. She was kind enough to bring some very generous samples of her home made dog treats which I shared with my daughter who has two dogs and all three dogs rated them 4 paws up. Thanks Kelly

I contacted Karen last year to take care of my cat Bryan while we were away in Peru for 2 weeks during the holidays. Karen was able to accomodate specific instructions concerning bryan and even went out of her way to give me an affordable price for a twice a day visit. I was initially impressed with how thorough Karen was! She has a professional form to fill out so you can put all of the specific details about your pet and their care on paper. This was particularly helpful for me since I wanted to make sure all of the details about Bryan were outlined. The form even includes a section so you can put any other items beyond pet care that you may require while away. I needed the mail collected, garbage taken out, delivered packages brought in, garden watered and house plant care. Karen went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. I recently moved from Carmichael to Folsom and asked Karen to cat sit again for a week while I was out of state. She was able to drop by before I left town to discuss the particulars of the new house and visit with Bryan. Both times Karen has taken care of Bryan I have been please with her work. She emailed me status updates while I was out of the country and texted me updates while I was out of state. This was very comforting to me because I was missing my boy! On both occassions our flights were delayed and/or cancelled making our return day/time prolonged. Karen was able to drop back by the house and care for Bryan on short notice due to the flight problems which was a relief during a stressful time for us! Karen is absolutely the best! We could not be more pleased with her. We will continue to seek her assistance every time we need a pet sitter for sure!

Lori provided excellent care for my 3 dogs. One of my dogs required special needs care, as she was an older dog who had doggie dementia. She made sure she was given plenty of liquids to avoid dehydration, food, etc., plus cuddling her made all the difference. While away, my dog needed to be taken to the Vet for emergency care. She took charge and worked with the Vet for the care. My other two dogs were given excellent care with walks, food and extra special time for them. She gave all dogs the extra care and love. Whenever they see Lori, they are always so excited to see her. I will work with Lori in the future for my pet care and would recommend her for taking care of your pets.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
