Desiree seemed genuinely interested in caring for my cat every day. She went above and beyond expectations of daily grooming, feeding, and cleaning the litter box by playing with him and sending videos. Not only is she professional, but she's friendly and trustworthy. I will definitely call on her to help me out with cat-sitting again.

Tiffany did a great job taking care of my cat Rufio. She sent videos and photos of him during her visits and took in all of our mail/packages. Tiffany clearly loves animals and her knowledge of animals put us as it ease with her in charge. I would not hesitate in hiring her for future cat sitting needs.

Dani was great and took excellent care of our dog. She responded immediately to our questions and sent photos and updates. Our dog was part of her family while he was there and that gave us tremendous peace of mind. I would definitely recommend Dani's pet sitting!

I originally contacted Jeannette for future dog sitting needs. When I found out she cleans houses, too, I was thrilled! Jeannette was very meticulous in detail. Fortunately, she brought her own cleaning supplies, since my broom went missing and my vacuum is on its last leg. She cheerfully restored order in a house of horrors, where the last professional cleaning was over 7 months ago, and the house was in disarray due to remodeling. Flexibility was key as she worked around the piles, lol, and she did everything I asked, beautifully. Best of all, my dogs adore her! I will feel perfectly safe leaving my three babies with her next time I go on vacation.

Kelly arrived right on time. She observed the dog and sat next to the dog. Her observations were right-on. Her suggestions seemed probable to "conquer" my dog's problem. We arranged an hour's workout for next week. I feel confident in her. LAAG

Heather is excellent! she is 100% accountable, professional, trustworthy, punctual, flexible, caring and my puppy loves her! She sends me updates on how he is during the day, photos of playtime and has even taken him to the vet when he got a bit sick from too much rawhide. She was exactly what i was looking for in a dog sitter and i can say after 2 months - i'd be lost without her:) Thank you Heather! love Laura and Spike

Denise did a great job with my puppy. It was only the second time she had been bathed and first time with any grooming done. Denise was very patient with her and will be coming back in Dec. to do it again. Thanks for the references.

I am an owner of an extremely protective 160 pound St. Bernard. She has extreme issues with social interactions with people if they are not family. I was so fortunate to find Coune's Canines. Stacy was extremely brave on that first visit. My dog lunges at her many times and barked non stop. She came back! And we tried her entering the house with my dog in her cage. This went on for many weeks but finally a breakthrough my dog allowed her to pet her through the cage. Now Stacy is easily her good friend! She can walk her around the property play inside with her and when I tell my dog she is coming to visit she is very excited. I never thought I would find anyone that would work with my temperamental girl. But I would highly recommend Coyne's Canines. They care about your pet and treat them like their own.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
