We had 16 pieces of IKEA furniture to assemble. Kerry was extremely accommodating, arrived when we asked, and coordinated his schedule to work around our delivery. He was efficient, knowledgeable about the products, and brought everything needed to get the job done. What he did in 8 hours would have taken us over a week (or we would never have finished at all). Extremely worth it. We're keeping his number to help with future projects.

Monica did a great job. She had great ideas and did lots of prep and research in advance. She wasn't famliar with our theme Doctor Who but learned quickly. She was great at doing things in a way to save money. She arranged the flowers herself, picked up and dropped off the linens, etc. My only wish is that I had found her earlier on in the party planning process! Having her take care of all the decorations and decor was a big help. She also said she could have helped find the venue etc. Next time!!

Christina went above and beyond my expectations as my wedding coordinator. I had originally hired her to help me set up decorations at my wedding, but she did so much more, without me even asking. She frequently emailed me to check in and see how I was doing and provided suggestions for vendors as well as even added her own touch to some of my decorations to make them stand out or work better. The was an issue with my venue not being ready on time, and she was still able to get everything setup with much less time than we had expected! She stayed longer than I had thought at my wedding and held mine and my bridesmaids' purses while the ceremony was going on. I got tons of comments about how great everything looked. Christina is so professional, and my day couldn't have been so smooth if it wasn't for her!! Thank you Christina!!

Shelly is such a sweet woman who has a true passion for flowers and all things vintage. It was great working with her, she provided beautiful flowers for my Temecula Wine Country Wedding in July 2015. I was a bride who was overwhelmed with my teaching position, planning our move to another city, experiencing family dramas, and Shelly was constant through it all. She truly cares about her brides/clients and ensures that she executes your vision to the tee. I changed my mind and was unsure of quite a bit (not having any experience with floral arrangements and types). I wasn't even sure what look I was going for. With the help of Shelly and Pinterest she was able to bring my vision to life. I would definitely recommend her services, you won't be disappointed. If you aren't aware, flowers are expensive and you have to be understanding. Hire Shelly and you won't be disappointed. She was the best vendor selection that I made! Thanks Shelly, blessings to you and your family!

This is my first time working with an interior decorator. I hired Brooke to help me design my living room. We just bought a new house and are trying to mix the older furniture with the new. Brooke, came in, assessed the situation, took pictures and measurements then came back the following week with a whole presentation including 2 different looks. She seemed to really understand my taste and put it all together nicely. She also offered to bring some samples to the house so we can see what it will look like in the room before I purchase them. I'm excited to see the room when it is complete. Brooke has been awesome to work with so far and I plan to continue to use her services! I highly recommend Brooke. She's extremely reasonable when it comes to cost and definitely goes above and beyond.

Decided to get my wife a surprise Christmas style makeover and Jennifer was both responsive via email in helping me plan and then deliver a first-class gift that my wife still raves about today. The best part is my wife has some new confidence in what looks good on her and how to go about purchasing it...thanks Jennifer!

The decorations always look as if they were flawlessly made. I’ve been to a wedding where they were the decorators and everything was so elegant and beautiful. Not only do the decorations bring out the hosts personality, but it’s incredibly thought through. Honestly, one of the most professional, flawless, and fantastic decorators I’ve ever met.

I needed a Wedding Coordinator to decorate the reception venue on the day of the wedding since I wasn’t going to have time to do so, Valentina contacted me and from her initial email I knew she was perfect! Her email stood out from others due to her professionalism and well thought out questions, she came off as someone that knew what the job entailed and asked all the right questions. The wedding was 5 months away Valentina kept in touch and as the date draw closer scheduled a meeting to go over the details meeting her in person just solidified my decision. Throughout the months Valentina made sure to very politely keep in touch with me always offering to help in anything needed despite the fact that I had only hired her for the day of. In the few days before the wedding she contacted me to check on last details, 3 days before the wedding I had to completely change the lay-out and was in constant communication with her for the next 2 days. Valentina went above and beyond to make our day perfect, I really never did worry about the reception decoration because she was in charge she gave me such peace of mind it was really great to be able to trust someone so much and not have to worry. The day came and she did an absolutely great job, she got to the venue early, set up the tables, décor, managed the florist and arrangements, deliveries, picked up a cake, greeted our guests and announced our entrance. Valentina was absolutely amazing and wedding coordination is really her calling, she had great taste decorating the cake table, gift table, everything looked beautiful. She added a few flowers to the cake and sent me a picture for approval it was so classy and beautiful and something I hadn’t thought of. Valentina was a joy to work with, always professional, kind and willing to do a great job she was my best vendor and I’m so grateful for her she saved me a lot of stress and did a great job my guests were blown way and are still talking about how beautiful the reception was. I’m a Project Planner by profession and looked forward to planning my own wedding which was fun, but I would not hesitate to hire Valentina and just let her plan and execute the entire event, in fact had I known her earlier I probably would just have hired and let her design and manage it. Working with Amanda was a great experience. She has help me pick out carpet, chairs and an area rug to match my decor. She really wanted to help me find exactly what I wanted. She was very patient. It took about 2 months for me to decide on the dining room chairs. Amanda has excellent taste. I look forward to working with her on future projects.

Style Umbrella decorated and set up my entire event! We have elaborate parties on a regular basis but this year I needed an extra hand. They exceeded my expectations in every possible way, I didn't think a company could really do such a fabulous job I will use this company again for every event I plan in the future. The cost was very reasonable and they truly outdid themselves. These girls really put in eso much effort in all the work and it showed! My guests were thoroughly impressed as was I

Krista did my wedding invitations and my wedding favor tags. I was blown away! Every aspect of planning my wedding was becoming more and more stressful, and the first fun thing I did for my wedding was to work with Krista on making a design for my invitations. I did not have a clear vision of what I wanted and Krista helped me to make decisions through small steps. It was overwhelming looking online at all sorts of different invitations, but Krista asked me simple questions that helped me to weed out what I didn’t want and discover what I did want. I ended up with an overall product that really gave guests a glimpse into what the wedding would be like. I had so many compliments on my invitations, and they were one of a kind. Krista was always quick to respond to me, met all of her deadlines, and never even batted an eye when I asked for MULTIPLE revisions. Her attention to detail is amazing, and there is nothing I would change about my final product. I had no idea that I could get custom invitations at a reasonable price. Only a few weeks before my wedding I asked if Krista could help me with my favor tags since I was running out of time to do them myself. Krista came up with an amazing design that matched our invitations and had them to me in record time. Working with Krista on the invitations and favor tags was probably the smoothest part of planning my wedding. With Babies on the brain I know I will be in touch soon to help with baby announcements and kid birthday parties. I am a customer for life. Thank you Krista!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
