I highly recommend Julie! Julie is fabulous. She styled my hair and did my makeup for a professional photo shoot for my business profile. I am extremely happy with Julie's service. She is professional, very experienced, and had an excellent understanding of the look I wanted and needed for my photo shoot. I plan to add my photo soon.

I cannot say enough amazing things about this company! Everyone was so impressed with our hair and makeup, my photographer even grabbed a card from them so he could recommend them. They are sooooo sweet and worth every cent they charge. So extremely happy with them. I'm so sad I don't have a picture to post with the review right now

Phoebe is an incredible makeup artist! I felt so beautiful on my wedding day and it was exactly what I wanted. Also, the makeup stayed on all night (even with happy tears haha). She is great at matching any photo or look that you are wanting and I was especially impressed of how she did my mom's makeup - my mom was nervous about it looking "too much", but Phoebe nailed the natural look and my mom looked gorgeous. The girls loved their makeup too. I would recommend Phoebe to anyone looking for a great makeup artist and she is someone you can trust for your wedding day.

I don't even know where to begin, if I could give Sarah 100+ stars I would! She was amazing and so professional. She came to my rescue three weeks before my wedding after the girl I hired totally put me on the back burner. Sarah was there for me and made me her number one priority. Not only did she come to my rescue, she also accommodated my party of 10, yes 10. She made sure she had two other makeup/stylists to get the job done. They were all equally as amazing! She made me her number one priority, came to my house for a free makeup/hair trial that was absolutely gorgeous. She kept in contact, gave me options and was very organized prior to the wedding. On the day of the wedding, 8/20/2016, she was early, she and the other girls took such good care of my wedding party. The stylists fit right in, personable and had a great time while doing a great job. Everyone was so beautiful, I felt glamorous on my wedding day. She made everything perfect! Not only is Sarah an amazing makeup artist and stylist, she has a heart of gold and I would recommend her to anyone that wants to feel/look amazing on their wedding day!

I truly believe that applying beautiful natural looking makeup onto a person who usually wears none is one of the hardest jobs in the beauty industry. I am a seasoned hairdresser who has been doing event styling since 2010. My resume includes Fashion Shows, Pageants, Weddings, and I even placed among the top ten for Hairdresser of the year at the RAW awards in San Diego. Every photo I have in my personal portfolio is dependent on a great makeup artist to compliment my work. Avante Garde styles are easy and funky and many rookie makeup artists can pull that off. To really nail a natural look requires a very high level of skill. For so many reasons in my world it is important that both hair and makeup balance each other! Christine Tran is by far the best and most versitile beauty industry professional I have worked with in my career. I have almost gotten to a point that I won't come unless they have hired her to work with me! She is polished and on time and she arrives with everything she needs and more in an organized and clean kit. I have seen her blow through 10 bridesmaids ages (14-84!) flawlessly and without taking a break. Each one looks as pristine as the previous. She is fast and efficient and I have seen people change their minds close to the last second and she will change their look with a smile. When people wear false lashes for the first time they almost always complain that it feels awkward. Not if Christine applied them!! No complaining and no running behind schedule with this makeup artist! I look forward to working with you again Christine (a totally inevitable statement since every time we manage to get another gig booked the same day!)

My husband and I were in the process of a sudden move, and I desperately needed to have the apartment we were moving out of cleaned. This was my first time ever using a cleaning service. Elena and her team got to our place and did MAJOR work! They had our place looking sparkly clean, especially the bathrooms and kitchen sink. Wow! I wish I had taken a before and after photo. By the time they finished, our place looked so much cleaner than when we originally moved into the place. Would definitely recommend!

Phoebe was early to the venue so no stress there! She perfectly duplicated a very complex updo from a Pinterest photo even though I have fine, sort of thin hair. I fully recommend Phoebe!!

I hired Cynthia to do my makeup because she is so talented! She has the makeup experience that ranges from subtle to dramatic, fun to romantic; and she was so accommodating! I loved my consultation look and feel even more in love with her work on my wedding day. She exceeded my expectations!! I showed Cynthia a photo of the look I wanted and she customized it to highlight my best features. She has great intuition when making artistic decisions and teaches while she applies. It was important for Cynthia to make sure that I didn’t feel over done. My makeup lasted all day!

This educated and experienced professional gets the job done efficiently and, oh so pleasantly. Cost-effective and resourceful, don’t let the $100.00 an hour scare you. Whether you’re a teen going back to school or me, a young 60 year-old who recently retired, Ms. Rosson nails your look. I considered an image consultant after finishing two career fields, military and law-enforcement, where I wore a uniform. I didn’t need to think about clothing and, so, never placed much time or energy into shopping. I watched TLC’s What Not to Wear and wished someone would submit me; I needed a transformation. Jennifer, by the way, worked with Stacy London and produces that caliber of client results. Jennifer came to my home after I completed a couple of short questionnaires. We, literally, went through my closet; I quickly discarded the cast-offs. I felt better already! Ms. Rosson maintains a contract with the Fashion Valley mall merchants who pay her fees for the first two hours of shopping. What a win-win-win set up! Between Banana Republic and Ann Taylor Loft (my go-to stores), we completed this evolution in two hours. I now own a dynamite fall wardrobe for an upcoming cruise of the Northeastern seaboard. However, all mix and match pieces and layers will serve me beautifully back here in San Diego. I have good taste, but constructing a real wardrobe including accessories needs vision and effort. Let this fashion stylist get you on the right track. I wished I had done this sooner.

Emma came to my house and did a edit wardrobe session with me. It was exactly what I was looking for. She started by helping me identify colors that do/don't work for me and picking out items that I should probably say goodbye to. Then we created lots of different outfits, all out of the clothes that I already had, and took pictures of all of them. We identified some items that would help fill the gaps in my wardrobe, in my case that was mostly shoes. When hanging my clothes back up, she suggested hanging them as outfits rather than by item (shirts, blazers, etc). It might sound silly but this was one of my favorite parts of the session. I waste too much time trying to put outfits together and this will help me tremendously (along with all the photos we took that I am going to print into a small booklet and keep in my closet). Her session was exactly what I needed and I would definitely recommend her services.

Blue is a true professional. I made my appointment with him from New York. He was reassuring and helpful. I needed to get dolled up my step daughter’s wedding. He stepped in and found a hair stylist, Sade who did an amazing job with my hair. I was able too keep the style for a week. Blue arrived fully equipped – high chair, lights, folding table, extension cord and makeup. He transformed me! I felt beautiful and I got quite a few compliments. My step daughter thought I looked lovely and expressed appreciation for the effort I made. I highly recommend Blue. He will bring out the best in you. He is worth every last dime I paid. Thank you Blue.

Deepa and I worked together for a need station. She did my makeup almost daily. She gets to know her clients needs and wants because let’s face it... everyone had a different preference when it comes to their makeup. She does this amazingly. I hired deepa for my engagement photos and couldn’t be happier with how my makeup looked. Deepa was also my makeup artist for a kids show called Tiny Talent Time. She is an exceptional makeup artist and I would highly recommend her talents in the industry.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.
