My fiancé & I hired Anna off Thumbtack in 01/22 to shoot our wedding (wedding 06/04/22). She was responsive when it came to booking the wedding and taking our money.
We originally booked 5 hours of coverage but ended up adding on 2 additional hours a few weeks before the wedding.
Anna showed up on time and took photos of the wedding. She was easy to be around.
We expected to get our photos back 10-12 weeks after the wedding, which is stated in the contract that Anna had us sign. This would put us at 08/13-08/27.
I texted Anna on 08/22 to see if our photos would be ready that week. She didn’t respond - I texted her again the next day. She told me she JUST STARTED editing the photos and that they would be ready that weekend or by midweek the next week “at the very latest”.
We still hadn’t received our photos by the following Friday. I texted Anna to see if they were ready. She didn’t respond. I texted her again the next week to check on the status of our photos. I explained I didn’t mind waiting a little longer if she was still working on them. I just wanted an update since this was now the second date we were promised the photos.
Anna didn’t respond. The following day, I reached out to the videographer she partnered with for our wedding (Dani). I asked for her help with contacting Anna. Dani called Anna. Within minutes, Anna responded to me. So she was getting my texts all along and able to respond, she was just ignoring me.
Anna told me she “took a couple of midweek gigs” and that’s why she hadn’t been able to edit our photos. (So frustrating - why are you taking extra gigs if you can’t deliver the photos of the ones you’ve already taken?)
She said she would deliver our photos by Monday, 9/12 (now the third promised date). I told her that’s fine but asked her to please communicate with me if it’s going to be longer. She replied, “Yes absolutely!” (As if she hadn’t been lacking in communication before)
I texted her Monday 9/12 at 7:30pm asking for the status as I hadn’t received anything. She said the photos were done and she was uploading them, but it was taking a long time. She said I should hopefully have the link to the photos by the end of the night.
The next day, Tuesday, at 5pm, I still had no pictures. I texted her asking if they were done uploading. She texted me back saying she was at work, but they should be done. Still nothing by the end of the night.
I texted her twice the next day, Wednesday, asking for an update. My messages weren’t delivering and when I tried to call, it went straight to vm. I assumed maybe her phone was off?
Texted her again the next day letting her know I’d appreciate a response and asked if the photos are ready. Messages still weren’t delivering.
I called Anna from my husband’s phone. It rang. Tried calling from my phone again and it went straight to vm.
At this point, I realized: ANNA HAD BLOCKED MY PHONE NUMBER.
There was no reason for this. I was following up on a product that was promised to me - that I had paid for. I was being polite and patient, just wanted some communication.
I reached out to Dani (videographer) once again to ask if she could help us contact Anna. She didn’t want to get too involved - understandably, this is her colleague - but she was shocked when I told her about Anna blocking me, and said she would contact Anna once more for us.
Dani was able to contact Anna right away. She told us Anna was working a wedding that day, but she would contact us ASAP. (So why was Anna able to answer Dani’s call/text, but not able to send me a quick text?)
Hours and hours passed.
At 7pm that evening, my husband texted her (and it was marked as “delivered” - confirming I was blocked). He let her know we had reached out to our attorney and we would be filing with small claims court if we did not hear back from her.
Anna texted both my husband & I at 1am (Sat morning). She said she was sorry and she was doing a cultural wedding and wasn’t able to respond (why couldn’t she have responded 4 days ago though? - when she said she would check on our photos once she was home from work? And why was she able to respond to Dani right away and not me?). She said she would be home Sunday night and we could hopefully get this settled then. She did not even mention the fact that she blocked me.
I responded expressing my frustration with the situation, and listing all the ways she had been giving us the run-around. I let her know I expect the photos to be in my inbox that Monday night, 9/19/22. I asked for both raw and edited copies (in case she rushed through editing, we could take the raw photos to someone else to have editing done). I let her know she was in breach of her own contract.
She finally delivered the photos to us. I’m not sure if they are all edited, or if some are raw. The angles in a lot of the photos are strange.
We were supposed to get free prints with the photos but it’s just not worth the hassle. Anna never followed up about this.
It’s been close to a month since I’ve heard from Anna. I’ve given her time to reach out and make this right but she hasn’t.
