Our visit with Mr. Ponce this weekend was an absolute success. He was on time for our very early appointment. He was professional but had a light-hearted spirit and really listened to our concerns. He had great suggestions and his experience was obvious by how well he understood our needs and worries. He was open to our many questions and made us feel very comfortable and relaxed through the processing of our back taxes. He was able to turn a bad situation into a positive and professional experience for us. I have used a tax CPA for many years but found that Mr. Ponce was able through his years of experience to provide just as much expertise and knowledge as my CPA had in the past. This is our new tax preparer and he has very reasonable pricing as well. If you are in a bind or just need your yearly taxes prepared I would highly recommend Mr. Richard Ponce he is a great guy and a top notch professional.

The best experience I have ever had with a CPA, Daniel was GREAT. He explains everything on my taxes and what I should do for my next year taxes. He even took the time and explained to my kids (19 yrs old and 25 yrs old) what they should with their future taxes. He has earned my business and my entire family. You cannot go wrong by hiring Daniel VERY Knowledgeable on every avenue from Long Form to Short form. Prices are very fair.

Stephen is a life saver. He returned my email immediately and got me in right away. He took care of my needs and helped me to take advantage of any and all deductions available to me. He set up my estimated taxes to reduce my taxes in the future. Any time I had a question during the process he immediately would answer them. I've had a few accountants over the years but I have never received better service as I did with Hess.

Emil is proactive – he takes care of everything. Until I started working with Emil, I’d always used a simple bookkeeper because I didn’t think I needed a CPA. But Emil is a knowledgeable guy – a very knowledgeable guy — and his expertise has helped me with taxes, setting up with separate corporations to purchase and lease equipment, and right now he’s even helping one of my employees bring my minutes up to date. Best of all, he’s proactive. No waiting until the last minute! He calls me in plenty of time to make sure I’m where I need to be so there’s no last-minute surprise. He is personable, a pleasure to work with, and always take good care of me in terms of both corporate and business taxes.

HCI Environmental had employed an in-house Bookkeeper for 14 years. As the company grew we needed access to timely and accurate information we weren't receiving. Hiring Aaron and his staff gave us that and more. For the cost of one in-house bookkeeper we now have access to multiple CPA's, Bookkeeper's, Tax Professional's and IT service's. From a small business owner's perspective taking on PFS has relieved a lot of stress and anxiety knowing that portion of the business is being handled at a much higher and more accurate level. The reduction in potential liabilities alone more than justifies utilizing PFS.

Greg was super helpful in guiding me through the steps from a working at a startup to now a small business owner. He not only helped me make careful but smart career decisions, he also helped me package myself and my idea in front of the investors. I needed much help with business modeling, financial modeling, and pitch deck compilation, and Greg taught me all in the most efficient way possible. I would not have been able to raise the funds I needed and be where I am without Greg today.

His knowledge of the tax code and understanding of my special needs were complemented tremendously. His vibrant, positive energy was an added bonus! I will definitely use George as my CPA and recommend him without hesitation! Thank you George for being so wonderful!

Alan is a bona fide tax professional. After a handful of years of going to my old, stuffy, extremely old school CPA, I knew I needed a change. Alan's reviews speak for themselves so I decided to give him a chance last year for the first time and can confidently say I've found my new accountant!! There is such a stark contrast between my old Accountant and Alan. Besides being intelligent, working swiftly to get problems resolved, and being a subject matter expert, what I was most impressed with was the communication. Even during busy season, Alan made me feel like a priority and dedicated as much time as needed to get both my personal as well as Corp taxes done, and done right. Give Alan a chance, you will not be disappointed.

Maggie is an incredible, professional CPA. She took the time needed to discuss our taxes and was very careful to do everything right. She's prepared my company's taxes for several years and I can't think of going elsewhere.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.
