Juan was easy to communicate with, provided a free estimate that was the best amongst the other tree services companies, and was very thorough with our job. We had over 9 trees that needed to be trimmed back since they were hanging over our roof. It looked like a daunting task, but Juan’s crew knocked it out in two days. I would recommend Angeles Tree Service to anyone who needs tree service. I’ve already recommend them to my in laws who also live in the Del Monte Forest.

Arisel is extremely professional and friendly. He responds quickly to inquiries, and showed up with the right tools for the job. I had an unconventional request - trimming down some tree stumps, but he patiently waited while I made measurements and markings, and then went to work with the chainsaw. Highly recommended.

Jon and his team were excellent. They arrived early, were within budget, left the yard spotless and even assisted us in fertilizing a hedge which recently started to fail. I highly recommend Jon for his tree service...we will definitely be calling him again.

Great work but hard to communicate price on items to get a specific job done. Otherwise pleasant to work with and does a good job clearing our sidewalk space that gets loads of leaves and cleaning/maintaining tree well succulents!

Working with Rich was phenomenal. My lawn and back yard were a complete mess before he showed up. He was nice and easy to deal with. His team went above and beyond, making sure I was completely satisfied with the leaf cleanup, tree trimming, weeding, weed prevention, and other assorted cleanup I requested. And, to top it all off, the price was very reasonable! I'll continue to use their services for all of my lawn care needs going forward.

Honest and very respectful. Had the courage to admit to providing a wrong cost estimate and apologizing for the mistake. I appreciated the sincerity in which Marceliano communicated this and therefore felt comfortable paying more for the job. I highly recommend Espinoza Tree Services.

I requested to have my yard, front and back, cleaned of dead plants, weeds and some replanting of new plants. Carlos provided me a time that he could come to assess the job and provide the estimate of cost. This was a very fair price for quite a bit of labor. Was certainly an all day job requiring several people. In addition, Carlos picked up the tree, that we pre-purchased which needed to be delivered and planted. I am extremely pleased with the service provided. Service was provided as agreed upon. The team was professional and respectful. I can highly recommend their work. They arrived at the time that was agreed upon and left when completely finished. The work site was left very neat upon completion. I am very pleased with the results.

A palm tree needed some serious trimming and pruning, and Green Touch Landscape did an excellent job. The palm now looks balanced and healthy, and the back yard looks spotless after the crew cleaned all the debris away. I will certainly contact Green Touch Landscape again later in the season, when I need more tree trimming. Highly recommend them!

Tony and Rudy had the unenviable job of digging 33 post holes through hard packed adobe interspersed with pine tree roots and the occasional rock. What they thought might be a 2 day job ended up being 4 and these guys rocked it. They were adept at listening to what was needed to make our fence come together and followed through in blistering heat. Thank you for your help gentlemen. I'd recommend you anytime. Brent

Ricardo is very professional. He quickly comprehended the issues with the irrigation system. We now have 2 timers one front and one back keeping things straight. Ricardo put in an all new drip system for the front which included new valves ( fewer than before) and did not utilize the old problematic sprinkler pipes. All plants, roses, lavender, fruit trees now receive the right amount of water. No more hand watering!! Thank you Ricardo!!!

Jean and his crew at West Valley Tree Care did a fantastic job on my trees. I had several trees that needed to be shaped, including a 30+ ft Chinese Pepper ("Pistachio") tree. The trees look beautiful and there's now sunlight in my backyard. Jean listened carefully to meet my needs, he and his team executed the job perfectly and neatly, they were a pleasure to work with, and the price was great. I highly recommend West Valley Tree Care.

Ricardo was recommended by a friend & did a great job with my backyard. My backyard looked like a forest. Ricardo cleaned everything out & brought down a 20foot old tree that was dying. We then decided to go with decomposed granite with stone walkway. He added plants along the walkway for extra decoration. Looks amazing. 10/10

Ramirez Landscaping was absolutely great! Jose responded within minutes of my request. He visited the next day to provide a quote. After we agreed on pricing, he returned the following day with his crew and completed the tree trimming in one day (despite it being the hottest day of the year). They completed everything I asked and more. Were polite, friendly, on-time, quick, and very clean. I highly recommend them for tree trimming and yard maintenance.

I was impressed with the quality of work that Shaping and Restoring offered me. Anselmo trimmed three of my rounded shape trees perfectly. He also worked on our oak tree, willow trees and planted some beautiful roses in my garden. I didn’t know Anselmo could also help me with my old sprinkles that didn’t work, he replaced my old irrigation system including an old sprinkler timer that I did not know how to use. I was beyond satisfied with the quality of work and great customer service I was provided with. I highly recommend Shaping and restoring.

Sabino —Mountain View Tree Service —is my “go to” for all my tree and pruning needs. I have been a customer for several years. I am very pleased with the professional timely service. From saving my 50 year old Liquid Ambers by properly pruning them—the remaining two on my circle —to propping up my Lemon tree ASAP after a storm—Sabino gets the job done! As well as my pear trees, photinia, maple trees and crab trees. He is always honest about the needs of my trees—what needs to be done now and what can wait. I recommend him to friends and neighbors. When my elderly neighbors tree fell, Sabino was there immediately! They were impressed too! And they appreciated the fair cost and good value.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
