- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly researching new products, training methods, animal illnesses and remedies, holistic approaches to medical and behavior issues, etc. I have a never ending thirst for knowledge when it comes to anything animal-based.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I knew I was meant to work with animals ever since I was a young child, catching frogs and lizards, bringing home stray animals and caring for neighborhood pets. My junior year of college, I started working for a local nature center in Maryland, and from then on, my passion for animals started to grow even greater. Once I graduated from college, I worked at a large emergency vet hospital in Aelxandria, VA for 2 years, before landing a permanent position at the nature center, where I stayed for over 9 years. While there, my knowledge and experience grew leaps and bounds, as I was in charge of a 50+ animal collection there -- ranging from invertebrates to reptiles and amphibians to fish to farm animals to birds and small mammals. One of my only job requirements is being able to work with, interact and care for animals.
