DeeCee was great! She came to me in Malibu and worked with my puppy, Milo, for 90 minutes. She taught me how to be more firm but also incredibly loving with my puppy and how to prepare him for service dog training. She affirmed what I did right and corrected what I did wrong and did an altogether great job. Milo loved her too! Would recommend! Many thanks from us!

Mobile Pet Spa came up as a result in a search on thumbtack in my zip code. They called me up immediately to notify me they don't service my area when they could have just ignored my inquiry so props to them for taking the time on a non-sale. They were professional and courteous on the phone and based on that I'd prob say they'd be worth checking out if you're in the area they service (farthest South is Venice). Seems like they'd be a good service to work with.

This is a great dog care /pet care service. I use them frequently and my dog loves them. Most of the time the owners walk him, occasionally an employee. My dog recognizes them when we are out and he goes nuts with happiness. They are very easy to contact and scheduling is fast and efficient. Love them!

Lisa has been walking and pet sitting my two dogs and two cats for five years. Her walks are always longer than the half hour I pay her for and my dogs come home well exercised and stimulated. When I'm not home, I trust her implicitly with my keys to my house and don't worry about a thing while I'm gone. When I'm away on vacation, the cats and dogs are so well taken care of, I couldn't ask for better. They are happy and content, even groomed. She texts me updates after each walk whether I'm home or away, will make runs to the pet store for me if I need it, will take the animals to the Vet or the park. Anything to do with pet care, she will do. I recommend Lisa's services for dog walking and all other pet care needs highly.

This is my first time needing a mobile dog groomer. I was naturally hesitant to invite someone to my home to groom my 15 year old furry companion, Frankie. My dog has special needs now that he's older. He has too much anxiety when I've taken him to the groomer and my regular groomer and vet suggested a mobile option. I used this application to see what my options would be on a Saturday, my only day off of work. What a fabulous opportunity to find someone like Ace the owner and certified pet hygienist and groomer. He arrived within 90 minutes from my first inquiry. I explained I needed my doggie groomed today. He arrived and was extremely kind, gentle and I was immediately calm as he helped assure me that my doggie was going to be taken care of. He clearly explained the services he provides. He was so gentle and experienced working with dogs like mine who have unique needs to keep them and trusting of the process. I think the before and after pictures speak to the quality of his work. My Frankie was transformed and looks great. After the initial hair trim was over he allowed me to come in to his grooming area, in his clean doggie salon. Frankie looked like he had been transformed. It's a a glamour makeover. Frankie was calm and did not seem anxious. My family all had the opportunity to speak to Ace and he was very patient with my older father. Like a member of our family now. I'm thrilled to have a new mobile groomer and am now working with Rebel for my doggies grooming needs moving forward. Highly recommend those who are in need of high quality care and just a great man like Ace. Additionally, his cost was well within reason and worth every penny.

To Whom it may concern: When I re-located to the Los Angeles area, one of my priorities was to find someone to pet-sit my Jack Russell Terrier, Maggie. Prior to moving, I had an ideal set up where Maggie could stay with a family, feel comfortable and loved, and be safe. I was able to find this ideal set up again with Jo-Jeanne. She is extremely reliable, professional, and I always felt I could leave Maggie with Jo-Jeanne and have a truly carefree vacation. I would highly recommend Jo-Jeanne for any petsitting/housesitting jobs. (She is also great with gardens and plants!!) Sincerely, Nancy Neal 818.330.9147

Kayla provided pet sitting for my 3 cats. She feed them and cleaned litter boxes daily for 12 days. She played and groomed them to the extent my cats would let her. She made sure my one cat that required medication got that daily. I would recommend her to others and use her again.

Finding a responsible, caring and professional dog sitter is more than a pet owner can ask for. Arlene not only asked me all the right questions, but also tuned into all of Odin's subtle yet critical (signals) body language. With this, she successfully assisted and aided his every need. Odin is not just my senior canine, but he also has special needs that require 24hr. care and observation. Arlene's compassion and patience not only put all the animals at ease in my home but her professional demeanor was also reflected through the relationships that she established in my home with my fur babies. Arlene quickly established a connection with my dog and assisted him with all of his needs (getting up, re-adjusting,and going potty) as well as administered all of his meds., not to mention cared for my cats as well. If it were not for Arlene, I would not have been able to take my trip with peace of mind. I plan to use Arlene as a regular sitter and Strongly recommend Arlene as a pet sitter/care giver

Patricia stayed at our house for three weeks to care for our two dogs, Lola and Banjo. Since this was Patricia's first time with our dogs, she suggested coming over at least twice before our trip to get acquainted with our dogs. I thought that really showed her attentiveness and concern about our dogs. It also gave me an opportunity to observe how she acted with the dogs. Well, she was fantastic. Patricia is really sensitive to the dogs' temperaments and preferences. She gives them time to get comfortable with them. When we returned from our trip, it was the first time that the dogs weren't insanely excited to see us. Happy, but not overexcited. I attribute that to the fact that they were comfortable, well taken care of and got lots of attention from Patricia. Patricia followed all of our instructions to the letter. She was at our house all of the time. She took care of all of the dogs' medicine needs exactly as asked. You could not find a more responsive house/pet sitter than Patricia.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
