- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will listen to you closely not only your playing but also your needs and interests. From there, I will suggest approachable, fun, and transformative steps and will work with your pacing.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was first trained in classical piano in Tokyo and London where I studied with the head of keyboard at Royal College of Music. I studied jazz piano, composition & arranging, and world music at Berklee College of Music. I then earned my master's degree in Modern American Music as a piano performance major from Longy School of Music. I earned my Ph.D degree in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology from the University of California, Irvine, where I studied contemporary performance and composition techniques as well as interactive programming. I taught all fundamental music subjects such as jazz and tonal harmony (music theory), ear training, counterpoint, and conducting at as a core music tutor at Berklee for three years. I have been teaching private students since 2014. I have also led undergraduate courses at UC Irvine.
