Chef Marcel provided a wonderful evening by being at my wife's birthday party and cooking for our guests. His menu he created for our party was wonderful even though it he was on as tight budget. Everyone was amazed by his cooking!

The lesson experience was outstanding. Theo was engaging and fun to work with. It was a Christmas present for my wife and three adult daughters. They made a delicious meal, learned about cooking techniques, and came home pleased, more confident, and excited about cooking. My wife said the experience exceeded the expectations that I had communicated to her. I liked the chef before we spoke, just by looking at his picture and forming that seven second first impression. He has a natural ability to teach and engage; each person connected and felt encouraged at what they were doing. I had a two day window after Christmas and I'm talking to him two days before Christmas, and he was able to accommodate my scheduling needs. The meal they created was good and looked very nice on the plate. Already, two days later they are using learned techniques at home and having fun experimenting with their new 'tricks'.

Tania was wonderful! She also brought her assistant, Jenny, also wonderful! If we are back in LA, we will definitely hire them, this time for a weekend if we can! They came and cooked brunch for us one day and dinner with a cooking Thai class the next day, as planned. We had a great time and they were clean, set up was very nice and they both were very polite. They did their own thing, and made the magic happen! The food was all very tasty! Presentation was great! What more could I say!! I suggest being clear in what you'd like and getting quotes based on that at the very beginning. It is very helpful because Tania will communicate with you prior to the event. I had a lot of questions and Tania answered all of them. Thank you Tania and Jenny! We enjoyed every bite and every minute you were there for us!

Chef Nancy did a series of healthy culinary classes in various homes including one that I hosted in our home. The classes were interactive, about 4 hours long and very informative as well as fun. Nancy asked each hostess what main dish they were interested in learning to cook or what cooking technique they wanted to learn. She then created a full menu around our request. Nancy bought all the groceries fresh the day of the class and came fully prepared bringing her cooking equipment and utensils to our homes. Everyone loved the food and Nancy was warm and friendly and most everyone learned something new. Highly recommend Chef Nancy.

Chef Kroner has catered many, many functions (for both my company as well as personal gatherings.) Whether he is preparing for 2 or 200 he personally creates, cooks and is involved in each and every aspect of his business from corresponding with clients, procuring all provisions (if requested) leaving every inch of workspace clean and sanitized, and, in most cases, in better condition than when he arrived. His knowledge of ethnic cuisines, cooking styles, techniques, plate presentation is vast. You have to look very far and wide to find someone, (who is his own boss), or anyone for that matter, that is so dedicated to customer satisfaction, who is honest, 100% reliable and one with a work ethic that is second to none. Chef Kroner only uses top quality products and, comparatively speaking, charges less than most other caterers. You don't realize this until you see the quality, the care, the meticulous way he applies his labor of love that you are getting Great Value!!!!!; Without Compromise. After he catered my first event 7 years ago, I was hooked, and never again had to worry about who was going to cater the next one.

Shelly not only makes vegan cooking simple and delicious, she provides the tools and tricks you need to prepare meals for your family! She teaches with love and passion and educates the public about plant-based nutrition and provides the info you need to make the switch from omnivore to vegan or enhance your current vegan lifestyle. I have been vegetarian for 20+ years and vegan for 9 years and I learned so much from Shelly just from one class! I can’t wait to learn more, as she has so much to offer and an entire cook book worth of recipes in her head to impress any chef!

I hired Elishia as a private chef as a Christmas gift for my partner during our busy seasons. She responded promptly to our request, purchased all the organic supplies and brought everything necessary to prepare dinner. Elishia spent 11 hours at our home cooking for a dinner party of 8. This wonderful meal included two courses and desert. Many of the offered chefs offered Italian cusine. Elishia's cusine was unique and inventive, the reason why I chose her. I can have Italian anywhere. Thank you, thank you, totally pleased. Best wishes, Al B

I have had the pleasure to know Rebekah for over 5 years now and have experienced her amazing vegan dishes. I also have attend many of her cooking classes that are not only tasty but teaches you about nutrition and how to make vegan dishes that look and taste so satisfying that you don’t even miss eating meat and best of all good for you! In addition, I have also hired her to cater my parties. Her professionalism and thought that goes into the menu planning was beyond my expectations. The presentation of the food was so delightful and delicious. Some of my favorite dishes are the spring rolls with house made peanut sauce, vegan crab cakes and her famous raw lasagna! I highly reccomend her for all your catering needs and to take her cooking lessons, you will not be disappointed!

Amazingly delicious food. From appetizers to main dishes to desserts, I was delighted with not only the taste, but the lovely presentation. I highly recommend her for any occasion! I try to avoid sweets but could not resist hers. I especially like that she uses fresh, organic, savory ingredients. I don't know my way around the kitchen, but she makes everything look so easy, I want to take a cooking class with her.

His knowledge was amazing. He was able to breakdown, in an easy to understand way, the science, and the art of cooking. What was also great was that he didn't just teach recipes, he taught the different principles of cooking and because of that I can create great, delicious dishes from scratch, not matter what I have in the fridge. My mind was blown when we covered salads. I didn't know there was another side of salads that made it more enticing and more high class. (see picture below) Overall, Chef Know-It-All is an amazing, artful chef that has the ability to make others fall in love with cooking. He's patient, insightful, and heavily invested in the student's progress and success. Every question I had, he answered. And every hurdle I had, he helped me get over it. Oh and did I mention it was fun! He taught me some flair tricks that the professionals use to make cooking fancy. Now I'm flipping sauces, cooking with big fires, and sprinkling flourishes left and right! I simply can't enough. 5 out of 5 stars for me.

Vegan cooking has never been as fabulous as when Porsche is the one serving up cruelty free dishes. She makes healthy - usually soy free - meals for my boss Russell Simmons and myself on the regular. Our guests always leave our events raving about the taste and marveling at how satisfying it is without flesh and dairy. She is the best of the best!

Sushi class 2/4/17 with Chef Stacey Whitney My first cooking class experience and I loved it! A group of my friends and I decided to try something new and decided on a sushi cooking class and had an amazing time. Our instructor Stacey wasn’t only personable, knowledgeable and extremely helpful but her easy going demeanor put us all at ease and made the whole experience a lot of fun (since most of us aren’t fans of cooking, we were a bit apprehensive). The class was a success and the food was delicious. I highly recommend this class. Mayra Godoy

My 18-year old daughter wanted to learn the basics of cooking, and so we hired Beth from The Cooking Coach 101 for the 5 private cooking classes. We have done 2 so far, and we have learned already so much! From how to organize our own cabinets and the fridge, to what herbs, spices and knives to use, to knife techniques and ways of cooking, such as browning (cooking techniques that I only knew by name before); just to name a few. I wish I had taken this class 30 years ago and I am so grateful and thrilled that I can give my daughter a gift that she can use a life time and pass it on to her children! Beth is an amazing and patient teacher with so much knowledge and brilliant ideas, I highly recommend her!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
