Nick F. says, "The value George Takvoryan brought to my home far surpassed his extremely competitive pricing for concierge level service! I reached out for a quotation on Thumbtack during the first week of March 2026, and thankfully George responded. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable from the moment he stepped into my home. He knew all about the advantages and disadvantages of different types of flooring and was able to recommend an AC4 laminate flooring that fit beautifully with my aesthetic and lighting conditions. George was timely in communicating with my association regarding proof of license and bond/insurance information, as my HOA requires documented approval prior to commencing work. George produced a fair quotation with clear definition of terms, pricing, and scope of work that included removal of flooring, inspection of underlayment, replacement of damaged existing underlayment, glue down of cork underlayment, and installation of new floor and new baseboards around the entire perimeter of my home. Also included was moving the furniture during installation. I accepted the quote. George had a mammoth task ahead of him. My old bamboo flooring was moldy and uneven due to previous leaks and the presence of an uneven, soft concrete subfloor. Also, there were old pieces of cardboard and other materials under the existing bamboo floor that were used in an attempt to create a level surface. I am also on the second floor, in a condo, so sound dampening was critical. Furthermore, my place is 850 SF and was packed full of heavy furniture that he had to work around. Attached you will find a series of photos showing the old, molded bamboo floor that George had to remove. George is a very meticulous person. He began by examining the condition of all my existing cork underlayment, removed any unsalvageable pieces and replaced them with new pieces. One of several things George does different from most other flooring contractors is he uses a glue to glue down the cork underlayment to the concrete, which took extra time and required painstaking attention to detail. Next, George layered on top of the cork a 3 mm thick underlayment made of rubber that provided extra sound mitigation required by my association. Finally, he installed the 12 MM thick laminate floor, ensuring flushness and a perfectly even surface. George is meticulous. He used laser equipment to inspect leveling. He ensured perfectly even cuts along the edges of my existing tile that the new flooring was to mate to with T molding. He also installed the T molding perfectly, including ensuring a perfect fit to my existing tile floor that was at a lower level. George also went above and beyond doing extra work, such as installing my front door entrance metalwork (at the bottom of my front door). He also helped with replacement of closet doors and tracks for my two bedrooms. Beyond George's expert skill, he is punctual, communicates clearly, is so friendly and engaging, and an overall pleasant person. It was such a pleasure working with him, especially considering I have had a bad run of luck finding good help for home improvement projects up until I found George. Please find additional after photos of the new lighter colored floor and T molds George installed. I could not be happier! George was able to level some very uneven areas perfectly. He is a rare find in that he brings so much deep passion and skill that is so hard to come by these days."See more

Andrew L. says, "When I moved into my house in 2023 I got new flooring and the previous person did such a horrible job that the tiles started cracking right away. I finally had to do something about it so I looked and looked and found Hurtado’s Tile and Stone. I was greeted with a warm and friendly guy named Richard. We came to an agreement and things moved pretty quickly. He helped me so much along the way with picking tile, giving advice and even getting me good deals. The projected started and his dad Efren and brother Brian started the job right on time (this has never happened and I have dealt with a lot of contractors/workers). They continue their work and were always communicating and on time. This is unheard of for me. He even helped me find someone to do another job I needed which also turned out amazing. The flooring came out exactly how I wanted it, so beautiful! They cleaned up after themselves and were so respectful. I honestly couldn’t recommend them enough."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Cleaning an epoxy floor is an extensive job in any warehouse or larger space, making it a job best left to a professional who can get it done quickly and effectively. However, there are several bits of maintenance you should perform by yourself in between professional cleanings. For example, you can remove grit from the floor with a broom, dust mop and/or shop vacuum.  Make sure you wipe away chemical spills like automotive fluids before they become permanent spots on the floor.

Epoxy flooring has several advantages. The biggest benefit is its durability. Epoxy floors are highly durable and tend to outlast standard flooring systems. A few other pros include:

  • It’s also easy to maintain due to its glossy finish and seamless nature.
  • It can be highly customized. You can choose different colors, designs, effects and even inserts like coins, flakes and other details.
  • It's  affordable — far more so than hardwood and other types of flooring. This value continues to pay off over time.
  • It can be slip-resistant with additional additives.

There are many different options for epoxy floor coatings, including:

  • Water-based epoxy coating
  • 100% solids epoxy
  • Polyurethane topcoat
  • Metallic epoxy
  • Mortar epoxy coatings
  • Self-leveling epoxy coating
  • Self-dispersing epoxy coating
  • Flake epoxy flooring
  • Mortar epoxy coating
  • Graveled epoxy coating
  • Terrazzo epoxy coating
  • And more

Talk to an epoxy flooring specialist in your area to see what your options are, and get advice on the best type to use on your floors.

The best epoxy garage floor coating is a premium multi-layer epoxy system. When you hire a professional, you can choose more durable options like 100% solids epoxy floor coating, which is great for repelling stains and abrasion. Choose a clear epoxy or polyurethane top coat to protect this layer.

Epoxy floor coatings typically range from 0.011 inches (11 mils) to 0.375 inches (375 mils). Thin coating systems have wide variability in their performance and are generally best for low-traffic areas, with the exception being high-performance topcoats that can handle heavier traffic in low-impact situations. Oftentimes, thicker coatings mean your project might be more expensive but will last longer. Talk to epoxy flooring professionals near you to discuss the pros and cons of thick and thin coatings.

Waterproof or scratch-resistant flooring is typically the best flooring for dogs. This includes:

  • Vinyl: Vinyl may not add much to the value of your home, but it is resistant to scratching, stains, dents and accidents. Plus, it’s an affordable option.
  • Tile: Tile is generally water-resistant and scratch-proof, and more affordable than hardwood or stone.
  • Laminate: Laminate is not truly waterproof, but it is tough and often more scratch-resistant than other wood floorings.

Remember that solid hardwood is susceptible to damage, including dents, scratching, licking and accidents. But if you want to install wood floors, the best hardwood floors for dogs are typically made out of maple, Brazilian walnut or bamboo.

For more tips on choosing the best flooring for dogs, talk to one of the best flooring installation professionals near you.

The national average cost to install flooring is $5,500, with prices ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 . Your cost can be much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select, the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed.

Here are some examples of floor installation costs, depending on the material:

The lifespan of epoxy flooring depends heavily on where it’s located, how much traffic it sees, the company or contractor you hire and how well you stay on top of maintenance. Some experts say epoxy floors can last for seven, 10, 20 or even 30 years. Still, you will likely need to re-coat your concrete floors every couple of years. This is the case even in areas like commercial workspaces, professional garages, restaurants, factories, and other areas with plenty of foot traffic. For homes and other residential applications with lighter traffic, epoxy flooring is capable of lasting far longer.

Epoxy floor coating and installation is a highly specialized job that is best left to professionals and specialists. Plenty of companies and contractors offer epoxy floor cleaning, repair, coating and installation services for garages, warehouses, commercial workshops and even residential spaces. Find an epoxy flooring specialist near you who can assess the state of the subsurface to identify problems before they arise.

On average, installing floor epoxy in your garage costs between $1,870 and $2,700. This price will depend on the size of your floor, as well as the current condition of the concrete. If the pro has to repair cracked concrete or clean significant stains, the cost will likely be higher. If you’d like to add color, decorative chips or features for anti-skid properties, you will likely pay more.
